Just 1 stick of dual channel mem in old P4 845E mobo?

I jusr received my 1G of 2X512M PDP 3200LLK. Since I still haven't received my DFI NF4 Ultra-D I thought I whould test the mem by popping in just 1 stick of PDP dual channel mem into my current rig (P4 2.4, Abit BD7II - 845E) So I took out my 512m Corsair XMS 3200 C2 and inserted just 1 stick of this PDP dual channel mem, but it's not posting. Is this normal that 1 stick of dual channel mem won't work in old non-dual channel support mobo? I just wanted to test the mem and see how it compares with my corsair XMS 3200 C2, but now I am thinking I might have got defected mem. Putting back the Corsair and everything works find, but PDP is just not posting. I tested both of PDP sticks individually. NONE of them is posting. 🙁

Thanks for your help in advance. 🙂

it should work fine in there. Buying RAM for dual channel just means that the RAM is matched and should be more stable in a dual channel arrangement. You may need to reset your CMOS to get the mobo to redetect your timings with the new RAM.

That's what I thought as dual channel mem is just a same batchs of rams packed together to enhance dual channel performance. I guess I'll clear the CMOS and try again. Thanks for confirming.

Just a thought.
Perhaps the SPD timing of the new ram is incompatable with the old board or changing fsb/mem ratio, so select loose manual timing for the memory in the bios, shut down, and try the new stuff. Seems worth a try.

Might work. Also max out the ram voltage and shut down. Definitely change your ram to manual from by SPD-your board may not read the SPD correctly which is pretty common.
