does anyone have any experience with this? Should i waste my time to go through it or try and get out of it? I work full time so it would probably be a burden. But is it something to experience once?

chances are you won't be picked. I did it...went down to the courthouse..sat around for a few hours...number got picked. Went into the courtroom...the judge asks some questions of the group...picks the jurors that are picked.

Having to pay for stuff is a burden too. Maybe I should try to get around that too.

Newsflash: Your working full time is not going to impress a single person in the court system. That's not going to get you out of anything. The best you can do is postpone to a more convenient time. You will have to go eventually.

When I got called, I sat on a wooden bench for six fucking hours, only to be one of the THREE people in the room who weren't called in for duty. Since I wasn't called in, I didn't get paid.

Bottom line: bring a pillow, blanket, tent, book, portable latrine, and a case of vodka.

Try being the last to check in. They may already have enough and let you go.

I had to show up last week for selection, but didn't realize you had to check in at the window. It wasn't until everyone was filing into a room to sit down for questioning, that I found out I'd skipped the check in procedure. I went to do it and was released because they sufficient candidates already.

:(

please don't vote if you think jury duty is a waste of time

I gotta kinda agree to a certain extent. Summon a jury and go through all the hassle -->one side loses a big motion --> case settles.

I dont think there should be juries for civil cases.

Canai did offer one piece of good advice...bring a book. Definitely. A lot of sitting around waiting (at least in Phoenix...so i'd assume if the city is medium to large sized it'll be the same).

Do not try to "get out of it". You can get in serious trouble if you do the wrong thing. You could be picked to not have to participate but you still need to go and to find out if you are picked. If you opt not to participate then you have to go back to work because your employer is notified that you opted not to participate.

I think OP meant that he was going to pretend like he was a bad person. There's nothing wrong with that. It's not like he's going to try and get out of it by spending the weekend in Mexican't or something.

Been called for jury duty once and gave truthful answers to the questions and was promptly dismissed

If you really think that it is a waste of time, then you should not make any sort of decision as an adult.

No one WANTS to do it, but it is a necessary part of our judicial system. Go in and do it, if you are ever being tried by jury you would want someone there that would be open minded and not disgruntled.

People have been caught in lies trying to do that and they get in a lot of trouble. Every single person who's job is to ask you questions in order to find out if you are an acceptable person to be on the jury is aware that people try to do this. They know how to catch you in the act and bust you. That is part of their job. At best, you can try and hope that you are lucky enough to get the guy who doesn't care if you are lying and just lets you go. Don't count on it though. It's not worth it.
