It took almost 3 years just to get to this stage.

I suspect it will take another 3 for the trial and possible sentencing. I often wonder why it takes so long to get to trial when not many facts are in dispute.

It took such a long time because Holmes has pleaded insanity, and the prosecutors who are involved are asking for the death penalty.

I don't see how Holmes is going to get anything but the death penalty. The whole thing seems premeditated. He even set up his apartment with explosives. Is he nuts? The answer is an obvious Yes! But, did he know what he was doing? I think he did.

The DA is wasting everyone's time and the taxpayer's $ going for the DP. Holmes would have taken a plea for a life sentence and we would have been done with him.

This a pointless exercise that only guarantees we will hear about this case and from holmes for decades.

There should be summary execution for egregious acts like his and the Boston bomber. One week trial and then firing squad.

Why it takes so long is easy.

This guy is never going to be found not guilty, he will never be a free man. So, there is no incentive for him to push for a speedy trial to get him out of custody. The incentive is on the other side, lawyers using this opportunity to rake in as many billable hours as humanly possible paid for by the state.

And what if someone was legitimately insane?

Due process is an important and we shouldn't start cutting corners because people appear to be clearly guilty. Just look at how it worked with civil forfeiture or RICO - at first only used against real scumbags, but more and more, governments use them to effectively steal from citizens or overcharge when prosecuting a crime.

The news posted the profiles of the jurors and it was interesting On who they selected. Most will still get paid by their employers. I could not imagine being a juror on what is going to be a long ass trial.

Boston Bomber convicted and sentenced. So apparently MASS is faster than COLO, but its assumed there will be years worth of appeals too.

Nah, this isn't Saudi Arabia or whatever shithole country you dream the US was.
It's so easy, though so sad, to bring out in many Americans what amounts to nothing but willing participation in a baying crowd lusting for blood. I'm sure some even look back at the colloseum and think it was savage, but they would have been there too cheering for the slaves to kill each other.

That's why reality tv is so popular. Bloodthirst. It's the American way.

Reminds me of an old punk rock song.

Plus wasn't the guy committed until he was uncrazy enough to stand trial?

No, he tried to get declared too mentally ill to stand trial, but the court appointed doctors said he was fine. You are thinking of the Arizona shooter, he was found to be very mentally ill. The Arizona shooter developed remorse and guilt over the shooting after his treatment help make him sane. He ended up pleading guilty.

The verdict:
You overdid it, Holmes, you in the danger zone, you shouldn't be alone...

Verdicts being read now. He has been found guilty of numerous counts of first-degree murder with a weapon. It will probably take a long time to get through all of the verdicts because there were so many charges brought. Hard to tell from the camera angle in the courtroom but it looks like he is smiling.

What on earth are you talking about? They're public defenders. Are they not?
