Jury-rigged shielding for laptop sound chip?

Hey guys,

A few weeks ago I got myself a laptop. I've been pretty happy with it, except for one thing - the sound has all kinds of crazy background noise. I mean, it's a laptop, so I don't expect it to be pristine, but this is freakin' ridiculous. It's just picking up all kinds of system noises and whatnot. The only other thing I can say is that the interference appears to be coming from a point after amplification, since changing the volume settings in windows, or even the external volume dial has no effect.

Anyway, when I get a chance I want to try to open the thing up and see if I can't do something with it. Anybody have any suggestions on a good way to try to shield the sound chip? Maybe some kind of paint-on coating or something, though I need to make sure it's not conductive (that would be bad :frown😉. I'm sure there's somebody out there who's had a similar problem...?

By the way, I'm just fishing for ideas right now. I haven't had a chance to open it up yet, so I'm still not entirely sure what kind of space I'm dealing with or anything. The system's relatively large (for a laptop), but it's probably still pretty cramped in there. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

BTW, for reference, the laptop is a Fujitsu Lifebook C 6611

Well, it's a refurb, but it's still under warranty. I don't know that I want to send it in or anything though. I don't need good sound all that bad, and I like my laptop. Still, might not hurt to ask.
