Jury duty - weird exemptions!

Just today I got a letter for jury duty (Indiana) in the mail. There is a list of about 15 things that could make you exempt from having to serve. Most of them are pretty obvious - police officers, senior citizens, etc. However, there are three that I find really odd. Can anyone give a reason as to why these may be exemptions?:

1. Dentists
2. Veterinarians
3. Maintainers of public ferries

Also, under the exemption for physical/mental illness they state "you may be required to provide verification from a physician or Christian Science practitioner". WTF is a "Christian Science practitioner" and how are they qualified to comment on physical and mental incapacities? Weird!

What other states have weird exemptions like these?

isn't there an option for racist? that's what I put for my parents most of the time and it gets them out hehe.

Dentists and Vets usually are both 'on-call' like Doctors, so they aren't good choices to lock up in a room for hours at a time.

If 'Maintainers of public ferries' is actual maintance and not operation, should be obvious. Another 'on-call' job.

As far as the Christan Science practitioner, your state is probably one that has a spiritual healing law. That basically elevates select members of faith to the level of doctors and psychologists. Doctor goes to college. Spiritual healer goes to 'Church school'.

I got out of jury duty as a student. I just told them that I go to a college that is out of town (which was true), and that I'm not currently living in my hometown.

I kind of wanted to do it, it was a murder case.
