Jury Duty next week

Jury Duty next week... my first one. Any tips?
I'm in California btw, Alameda County.

Oh and I'm a full time college student... i really don't think I can serve on a jury (although the experience would be interesting), is there a way for me not to serve?

You're a full time college student in August? A very small percentage of trials last longer than a week and if they're expected to you'll probably be excused if you're a student. For most cases you'll be done before school starts up again.

I just recently got notice that I have to go to grand jury selection in September. If I'm selected, it will mean serving one day a month for 18 months. The good thing is that my company provides paid time off for jury duty.
My mom served on a grand jury not too long ago. She said it was really interesting. But deciding whether to indict someone is probably a lot different than deciding guilty or not guilty.
