I am starting to get tons of junk mail on my yahoo and hotmail email addresses. Blocking the addresses is no good since mails come from new addresses all the time. My junk filter settings are set to 2nd most restrictive (most restrictive being accept emails from people in the address book only). But its not working too well.

Is there any publically available junk filter that goes with these email services? (especially hotmail)

I use Hotmail's most restrictive filter. The only things that come in the Inbox are addresses I approved or are in the address book. Everything else goes to the Junk folder. I set the option to delete all mail in the Junk Mail folder, so I never see junk mail. If I'm expecting some new email from a new source that would go to the Junk folder, I would set the "retention option" to keep all Junk Mail messages. I then add the new valid addresses to the address book, and reset the "retention option" to immediate deletion.

wow, Staver that seems like a big hassle anytime you expect someone new could email you :Q

You guys might wanna keep an eye on MailWasher apparently there will soon be support for Hotmail/Yahoo/AOL accounts

Hotmail is my most expendable account. I only use it for newsletters or site subscriptions, so I know exactly when the real emails are coming. I rarely adjust the retention option, but thanks for that link.

hehe, well Hotmail is my ONLY account & has been for close to 5 years now. Truthfully I don't get that much junk mail - but I find the filters that hotmail provides are useless. But on the other hand, lots of ppl email me to this address without me knowing their email - so deleting a junk message a day seems much less hassle than changing the retention option, or the junkmail sensitivity setting.
