I had a June Bug in my room earler, these have to be one of the dumbest insects ever. The fucker was flying around my room banging into everything, every once I've ever seen flies around like it's both drunk and blind. I couldn't kill it for awhile because it kept flying high and just making crazy swerves all over my room. I spent awhile trying to just ignore it but it Kamikazed right into my head a few times. It finally stopped to rest and I smashed the fucker. I know they can't bite but they're high on my list of bugs I don't like.

Single ones don't bother me. When they swarm like crazy (worst by a nearby river), then they get annoying.
Normally I just pick them up by their wings (they land and have them closed, vertically) and throw them out of the house. Then again, I should realize it'll probably go on and mate, resulting in many more babies next year. I should go on a rampage with a flame thrower.
Recently they haven't been that bad, a few years back they were bad even by my house. Haven't seen one yet, although they vary between May and June around here (May flies or June bugs, same thing around here... different elsewhere?)
hmmm, wiki has corrected me. apparently there are also beetles. hmm, so they are different. apparently the may flies around here are a different thing, and these june bugs are those annoying motherfuckers that constantly smack into windows with their heavy bodies. Yeah, we get those too. Always by our kitchen window outside. They never get in, thankfully. Beetles are the bugs I think I may hate most.

Having one fly into your mouth when out riding the 4 wheeler is a good time.

they smack into anything and make loud thuds because they have really hard shells. My friend has a pool and in the summer if we swim at night if I dive and come up there's a decent chance one of these fuckers will be in my hair. That's not a good feeling to have these fuckers in your hair. I have never seen a Cicada I'm guessing they're not found in Cali, they look bizarre so I'm glad haha.

cicadas are far from bad. They sit in trees and make noises. On years they aren't bad, I actually enjoy their sound at night when I'm around a fire. It's pleasant to fall asleep to too. I might be weird, because they have a strange sound, but to me it ain't all that bad.
Now, during a bad Brood year, they amp up their sound to the max thanks to having so much more of them. But even in our part of town, they weren't bad.
We must be on a year without them, haven't heard a single one thus far. Strange... growing up I swear I remember them every year.

Watching a bird chase a cicada in the evening is entertainment at its finest though. :D
Cicada is doing all this evasive maneuvers as screaming its little head off in fear of being dinner. Thing is loud and confused me, because its such a crazy shriek from the bug that you never hear. Didn't hear it after awhile, I assume the bird had dinner. :)

No kidding, that was always one of my worst fears, getting a damn june bug stuck in my hair.

Those are definitely the worst bugs I've ever dealt with. The back of my house gets tons of sunlight, even in the winter, and so these creeps manage to squeeze through cracks in the windowframes and get into the house, or by using the bathroom vent. They'd be everywhere - under your pillow, behind your headboard, clinging to a light or the vent housing, on the walls and ceilings, in the shower, in the toilet, on towels, on a toothbrush, everywhere. Flying around is this very distinct buzz, but they're clumsy, and just slam off things and rebound everywhere. Even better though, if you scare them or squish them, they stink beyond belief. Think green apple, except 100 times as strong. I tended to use a vacuum or flush them down the toilet, and at an average of four a day.

Hell, that's half a meal right there.

Japanese Beetles are the worst.
Their "defense" is awesome too - they just lift up two of their legs into the air. Ooooo, I'm really scared now. :D

Squash bugs. I'd get them, too. The best way I'd use to get them would be with some kind of container with a lid, and then take it outside and put a little rubbing alcohol in.
Ours mustn't have been too excitable though, as sometimes they could simply be put down the drain with some hot water, and there wouldn't be any stink.

When I can finally afford a house, I think I'm going to build it myself, and ensure that it's hermetically sealed. :)
I'm tired of sharing the livingspace with nature.

Earwigs FTL. Little MFers. I usually commute the death sentence for most bugs and toss 'em outside, but I keep a cup of 98% rubbing alcohol around just for those little bastards. Like MotF Bane's stinkbugs, they get into EVERYTHING. I wish my pet toad Dennis had a taste for them. :)

Here in Kahleeforneeya, we don't have many of the bugs youse folks back East do. No fireflies, no Junebugs, no Cicadas...Sometimes it seems like the only insects we have here are just bees, hornets, and flies. (you know flies are the Kahleeforneeya state bird, right?) ;)

We do have fucking tarantulas in parts of the state. Not horribly big ones, but they're still spooky as hell, especially during the times of the year when they're on the move.

I used to get crickets in my room. It's a pain in the ass waking up at 4 am and having to find them so you can kill them and get some sleep.

ummm I live in So Cal and June Bugs in the summer are everywhere! I dunno about up in The Bay, I don't think I'd mind Fireflies if we had them, but we definitely have June Bugs man.

and for the "not horribly big ones" Trantulas uhh the few I've seen were big! I have not seen one in person for many many many years

*knock on wood*

a Fuckin June Bug about an hour ago flew full speed into my monitor, since it's a CRT it banged the glass and there was a loud ass thump. Scared the shit out of me, it then hit my desk and stumbled around. I didn't wanna kill it so I put a Diet Coke can over it and the fuckers trapped under it let's see it try to escape!

ummm, what you get in SoCal and call "june-bugs" are different than what the folks back east and down south call "june-bugs." There are however, many different beetles that are similar, in that they start from grubs, become fairly large beetles, and happen to mature from the larval stage about May or June...thus the name.

The tarantulas we have up here are brown, about the size of your hand. They carry a pretty good sting when they bite, but for most people, aren't any worse than a bee-sting.

My cat took care of the crickets that got inside last year. Be funny as hell too, since I never knew where they'd come in through, but he'd be sitting there, hearing them with his sensitive ears, and waiting for them to come out. Once they were in the open, it was all over! I'd come home from work, and find a barely alive cricket, usually with at least one hind leg missing, twitching on the floor. :D

The worst bug I've had to deal with was when I lived on Guam. They have these huge flying beetles that live in the coconut trees. Day or night, they'll fly (to wherever they're going..... maybe another tree?), and always in a fairly straight line. If a building happens to be in the way, they smack against it, bounce off, fly into it again, bounce off.....and keep doing this until they get to the end of the building, and can follow their flight path again! Damn near indestructible, the birds don't even eat them. They were entertaining at night, though, when I'd be outside having a cigarette.......

Thank goodness I don't deal with them anymore, and gave up smoking too!!

It seems like cats kill pretty much anything smaller than them.

my cat got confused by toads. She would pretty much kill anything that moved, but toads made her act strange. They don't run, they smell bad, look like the ground and when prodded by her paw would just tuck itself in and not budge. She would just stare at them until something else caught her attention.

She would also eat june bugs. She found a rather large praying mantis one day that locked on to her nose when she tried to sniff it. That was truly hilarious.
