Jumpy mouse in Vista?

So, generally, in situations where my PC seems to be using a fair amount of CPU, RAM and reading from the HDD, my mouse cursor jumps incrementally to the top left corner of the screen.

This usually occurs for about 5 or so seconds right after Windows starts, when I'm having network issues (such as the internet disconnecting) and on occasion when programs hang.

I have the same problem on my Laptop.

Both computers have Vista Business 32-bit. On the Laptop I notice it simply using the mouse pad, on my desktop my cheap PS2 mouse as well as my USB Logitech G5 both functioned the same, so I assume it's very likely some kind generic mouse driver issue in Vista, as I've heard of other people who have this same issue.

It's just one of those things that's 2 seconds worth of annoying, and I'd like to figure out why it happens.

Thanks!

Had a similar problem with a generic laptop optical mouse, on XP. Don't think we ever figured it out. It was a fun handicap in shooters when you stare at the sky and spin in circles for a second. Might try other surfaces and see if that does anything.

Yes, that does happen on occasion aswell. I'm using a mouse pad, and I used to use the table surface, even used a white piece of paper for a while, always the same results. Every single boot-up just as windows is starting the cursor jumps from the center of the screen incrementally to the top left corner very quickly. It only occurs within the first 30 or so seconds after I log in.

It is normal, since the CPU is "busy" loading programs/services etc., so it might take some time to respond to the "mouse's" requests.

I would be concerned if it was happening during periods of inactivity, but not during startup...

But why does it jump to the top left of the screen? Wouldn't I just get mouse lag if that was the case?
