jumpstart PSU?

I just received my 620 watt powersupply for my new computer, i am using watercooling and while i was reading the "guide to watercooling" posted in the cases and cooling section i noticed he said to place a paperclip(im assuming metal) in your green slop of your motherboard connector and place the other end in any black slot, the only problem is he said you normaly have 12 pins, i have a 24 pin connector, is this safe to do? it is used to make the on and off switch work without connecting it to your motherboard, im just worried about putting a metal paperclip in my powersupply
