A GNU purist who is willing to spin up MS Office in a VM and calls a language a virus. Nice.
I gotta fix that for ya;

A wannabe GNU purist who is willing to spin up MS Office in a VM and calls a language a virus. Nice.

Unless you like seeing ads on the sidebar, I see no reason to insist using uTorrent.

This might be a bit offtopic, but those ads can be disabled... There's a configuration opinion in the options screen, in the advanced section or something. You'll probably need to google it to know how to do it though.

People find it hard to take you seriously, when you make troll comments like that.
Java is leech. My job is to program in Java. I hate it with a passion. Most disgusting piece of redactedIve done in my life

I'm not quite sure how it "strays". Unless you are some kind of "One True Distro" believer, and all other distros are "impure" or "fakes".
(There's even a rolling Mint distro based on Debian. Is Debian "straying too far" from GNU/Linux?)
I read that it uses its own packages but it seems to be compatible with Ubuntu's packages....I guess that will do.

Never claimed I was a purist at all.
There is nothing remotely comparable to Office right now. LibreOffice? Please.
Java shouldnt even be considered a language. Its like slicing your wrist slowly and never dying from it.

I thought the latest versions made that option unavailable any longer.

No. uTorrent has always had a advance setting to turn off all ads and/or redirect them to for example "about:blank" which would show nothing.

The OP is the exact type of person I would never waste my time trying to help.
Was gonna mention how to do it but why waste my time?

Also, why are you still posting?

Hmm, sounds like you're in the wrong field then? Perhaps consider a career change?

What parts of Office do you use? There are alternatives out there. If you're typing Word documents, an alternative is LaTeX. For Excel, I'm sure you can write your own application for flat file manipulation.

Anyway, did you change over yet?

I have good respect for Java and .NET. But if you are not happy with VM/IL and prefer native programming, try Visual-C++ or Delphi/Lazarus. Delphi is the best development tool out there which is poorly marketed and exorbitantly priced. But you can always try Lazarus (you can use CodeTyphon version of installer to make things simple). You won't regret it! Lazarus is the open source counterpart of Delphi

Note: Delphi and .NET/C# are both brain children of the same great person (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anders_Hejlsberg).

when, Ktorrent (is basically exactly utorrent and ubuntu native), same with the IRC client....

not trying to be a dick,,,... just things i've learned after making thing switch from MS to Nix over the las couple of years...you'll see.
