I recently have this issue when I am typing in a document that the curser in the document will just jump around, sometimes erasing or going back over what I just typed or wiping out the whole document. Undo doesnt return it.

Ran scans for viruses, etc, and nothing.

Can it be a both keyboard, bad touchpad, etc?

Anyone else have issues like this, and is it fixable?

Dell Latitude D800 with XP Pro bought in 2004.

*facepalm... This is very common and is caused by your wrists rubbing against the trackpad when you're typing. It has been a while since I've owned a laptop but I'm pretty sure that if you go into your trackpad driver's settings there should be an option to disable trackpad input while you're typing. :)

Disable your touchpad using FN/driver software/device manager to see if joseph is right. I once had a crappy ass HP/Compaq laptop that heated up my hands after i worked on it for awhile, and eventually my warm palms started to fudge with the touchpad.

Yeah - disable the touchpad and get a small mouse.

I actually bought my Toshiba because it had the touchpad recessed and greatly reduces the odds of that happning. However there are setting to reduce this, yours may have differen't wording:

The PalmCheck™ feature guards against operating the TouchPad with accidental contact. PalmCheck allows the TouchPad to recognize when your palm is resting on it or brushing its surface while you are typing. This will help to prevent unwanted pointer movement or clicks.

If the TouchPad exhibits undesired pointer movement or clicks, increase the PalmCheck setting by moving the slider to the right toward Maximum. If the TouchPad misses intended motions or taps, decrease the PalmCheck setting by moving the slider to the left toward Minimum. You are more likely to experience missed motions or taps if the slider is in the red zone.
