Hey guys,
I hope this is the right place to publish this post. I need help.
My ISP has provided me with an Arris TM822. The line-in is located on the second floor of my house, in the office. I have a LG smart TV in the basement 2 floors below. I bought a pair of NETGEAR XAVB2501-100NAS in June 2012 to bridge Ethernet connectivity to the basement.
In the meantime, I brought my old PC in the basement to use as an Internet gateway and stream content from the computer to the TV using an HDMI cable. Since the Netgear jumper has only one Ethernet port, I bought a cheap D-Link DIR-615l1 to use as a splitter. The idea was to be able to connect the TV and the PC at the same time to the same jumper. It seems it does not work.
When I connect the TVs or the PCs Ethernet cable directly in the jumper, everything is fine. When I plug both machines in the D-Link and connect the router to the jumper, I am presented with the D-Link welcome screen. I tried to configure the modem, wi-fi and so on during countless hours but none of the machines can access the Internet. It is like the router cannot be configured I cannot get past the set-up page. Heres the flowsheet:
Line-in → Arris TM822 → NETGEAR XAVB2501-100NAS → PC/TV = OK
Line-in → Arris TM822 → NETGEAR XAVB2501-100NAS → D-Link DIR-615l1 → PC or TV = NOT OK
Problems arose when I changed ISP in August. I never experienced such problems with my former provider. I called the technical support of my actual ISP but they could not help. They say they cannot go past the router
Does anyone have an idea or a solution? I am really stuck here. I suppose I could go to the store and get a new modem/router but I would like to be sure the D-Link really is the problem.
Any help/thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for responding to this thread!
