Only in America.........

Favorite pastimes for the 4th of July include grilling out, spending time with the family, and setting off a few fireworks when it gets dark. But not for the park-goers of Lakewood, Ohio.

This posted sign, which has been making the rounds on the internet and comes to us from YoungCons, declares that 4th of July has one central theme: no fun allowed.

#3 is the scary one.

How is that not a 4th Amendment violation?

Nice catch -- I did not even see that......well I did see that but it did not register......now that I had my first cup of coffee...
But the police response if you were to point it out to them would probably be something like -- We posted the rules.....you do not have to be here.....it was your choice.....

All to often Police show their blatant disregard for the 4th Amendment.....

It's no different than going into a public courthouse or airport.

Independence day, the day we celebrate our freedom, subject to increased governmental restrictions, of course.

Those are probably the park rules year round but they want to get the point across.

Except they make a special point of demonstrating the alcohol prohibition is a year-round rule. The other rules, especially the unconstitutional search and seizure are almost certainly special rules because of the anticipated increased volume of persons.

The sign itself is a special rule for people who think they're special and the rules suddenly don't apply to them because of a special day.

And it's state property. They can do whatever they want.

Meh, if there's going to be 10,000 people in the park for a public fireworks gathering, then it kind of makes sense.

#1 could be a hazzard in close proximity...not everyone is respectful or courteous.
#2 makes sense...assholes could block others' view of public fireworks
#3 is bullshit
#4 is current rule
#5 makes sense...pretty dangerous and, again, people don't pay attention
#6 is again a courtesy thing...most pet owners aren't courteous when in crowds
#7, w/e.

The only rule I take issue with is #3. That one is not ok.

My house is next to a park. It's nice to have a large extension to the back yard for breathing space but I have witnessed some things that concern me.

I have seen the police show up within a few minutes whenever a group of young people are sitting around. My next door neighbor has told me that she feels uncomfortable when she sees strangers in the park within view of her back porch.

I sometimes think that it's not the city council or the cops but paranoid citizens that get these things going.

This thread could be locked and the OP punished for posting "inaccurate information" - as I have been many times.

But I am not a crybaby so I will not report this thread. I will rather explain and improve the discussion.

I do not know right now which is the "source" website, as the OP said it has been making rounds across the web, but the specific site he is linking to is using dirty journalism tricks(to get traffic), this image is from last year, as it was reported on StoryLeak.com on 4th July 2013.

An activist later glued a letter on the sign as well.

On the other hand, im not hostile to this because it's good that this went viral again to knock people out of their comfort zone a bit, and start thinking. Technically it's not right, but there's probably similar signs somewhere in USA that didn't get reported this year or may be reported tomorrow ...
