Judging Arafat

Rison

Senior member
This former terrorist has been leading the PA since 1993, I believe. How well do you think he's done? Is there a real replacement for him, as some have insisted there isn't? How would you rate his performance? No poll, just comments. This isn't just about Arafat and Israel. It is also about how well he's done with his people's welfare and the economy.

Personally I think that any leader is only a face for the people who are telling him what to do. As far as his case is concerned.. I think at one stage he was the man in charge... but now, he has no real control or power. He did well for the Palestinian people... unfortunately the US government is full to the brim of Jewish politicians who are set on seeing the demise of the Palestinian leader and therefore the Palestinian people... Genocide? Make up your own minds...

Rison -- Your words apply equally well to another terroist, Ariel Sharon. Today, Isrealis killed another Palestinian activist accused of killing Isrealis. Whether or not he was guilty as charged, murdering him outside his home is not the same as arresting him bringing him to trial. Isreal also bulldozed more Palestinian homes, today, after pledging to stop such actions.

Sharon has a long history of being a murdering terrorist. I don't have time to dig up all my old links, right now, but keeping things in perspective, if either side really wants peace, they are going to have to stop this crap. I'm in favor of cutting off all relations, including financial support, for whichever side keeps it up, starting right now. :|

Arafat is a loser.
There has to be either a fair peace with Israel, or open hostility. Right now, Arafat is just letting Israel to kick Palestinian Authority around without any response aside from some feeble bombings and rock throwing. He has outlived his usefulness. Palestinians need a more charismatic, more western oriented leader who will be willing to stand up for what he believes in, instead of just holding on to power.

baaaah, garbage. and your expectations with bringing this sweet loving 'activist' to trial lies with whom, eh ? the isrealis,
palestinians, or the smurfs ? you must've cried too when 'the engineer' had half his head blown off by a booby trapped
cell phone planted by mossad because he too was just another grinning peace-lover whose random civilian massacres
were innocent political acts which the dumb world didn't understand.

arafat knows where these animals lie. if he doesn't know or if he forgets, given his advancing years and poor diet, then
the regular lists isreali intelligence provides, which includes addresses and telephone numbers, should refresh his mind
and impell him to arrest these loving peaceniks, as you suggest. but ofcourse, this isn't happening, is it ? they walk in
the open, flaunting their menacing mobility, and ties with arafat's own cronies, who just last week were caught for the
upteenth time violating the same peace accords they swore to uphold.

I no longer give a sh8 about either side, as long as they don't start a nuclear war. I'm no big fan of the Palestinians, but in recent years, I think the Isrealis have become the monster they fled in Nazi Germany. 🙁

The ONLY way they will achieve a lasting peace is to recognize that both groups have centuries old claims to the same territory and figure out how to share it. Jerusalem is a historical center of interest for at least four of the world's major religions. I think it should be made an international city of peace to stand as an example of how multiple cultures can share the wisdom, beauty and benefits of their mutual history, instead of running death game ego trips over it.

I'm with Harvey on this one. Palestinians and Israelis are two different sides of the same coin and supporting either one is folly. Both Arafat and Sharon need a cell (prefebarbly right across from each other) in the Hague...

Of course, with the never ending and almost unconditional support of Israel by the US (under the lame old excuse of democracy yadda yadda yadda) Israel will never be defetead. Thus only two options remain: Palestinians will forever remain second class citizens in their own lands, or they'll simply be killed by the israelis until they stop anyresistance.

One thing is for sure though, there will never be peace there.

Nearly a decade of so-called 'Peace Negotiations' has proved fruitless. As much as I hate to say it, I'm begining to think that this undeclared war will never end.

Give me a break! That's perhaps the most anti-semitic remark I have ever read/heard.

I don't think that remark is that far off base. Israel is not there yet, but they are certainly heading in that direction. If you want me to list the parallels, I would be happy to write them out for you.

The Isreali people want the extermination of the Palestinian people? WTF is wrong with you people?

No, but they would rather the Palestinians go away somewhere, and free up the space for Israel to grow.
I didn't say it was exactly the same.

Vespasian -- << Give me a break! That's perhaps the most anti-semitic remark I have ever read/heard. >>

Living in small sheltered box, are you? I'll give you a break the day you prove me wrong.

I come from a Jewish family. I have friends from many cultures. I'm talking about the actions of the Isreali government and armed forces, not the actions of Jews. Calling my remarks anti-semitic is like blaming Bin Ladin and his cronies' terrorism on all Muslims.

<< The Isreali people want the extermination of the Palestinian people? >>

STILL living in small sheltered box, are you? Go ahead and tell me you haven't heard exactly that from the right wing religious morons who back Sharon. Tell me you haven't heard that from various "settlers" who think they should have the right to run Palestinians off land they have lived on for centuries.

Sorry, but there is really more than enough really stupid hatred and violence from all sides to go around. :|

Read From Beirut to Jerusalem by Thomas Friedman. Very very good book about the middle east. Very balanced too, especially since he's Jewish.

You didn't say the Israeli government. You said the Israelis. That's a huge difference. Be more careful next time.

A sheltered box? I have family in Israel, you a$$hole.

Vespasian -- << You didn't say the Israeli government. You said the Israelis. That's a huge difference. Be more careful next time. >>

Ummm... Last time I checked, polls showed the majority of Isrealis still support the actions of the government they were stupid enough to elect. (One could argue we have the same problem, here) :Q

<< I have family in Israel, you a$$hole. >>

I see... You have nothing intelligent to say, so you resort to name calling. Excuse me while I relegate all future input from you to the trash heap. I do not suffer fools lightly. You qualify.

Meanwhile, if members of your family voted for Sharon, I will be polite enough to wish them more peace in their lives than their vote merits. I wish that for Palestinian families, as well. 🙂

Bottom line is this.

**** The Israeli people elected Sharon who is a mass murderer and convicted mass murderer in an Israeli Court even. They chose the path of Hitler. I will never give the Israeli people sympathy for the Holocaust again.

Wait a minute! You did just say that the Israeli people want to exterminate the Palestinian people.

And I'll use as many emoticons as I like. :|:|:disgust:

he needs to shave the 3 hairs growing out of his upper lip. thats not a @#% mustash, it makes him look like a freakin pervert.

Maybe not exterminate but they want to push them out of traditional Israel and put them in a position to never "harm" the Israeli people again.

Bottom line is Sharon was convicted of mass murdering inocent refugees (thousands) don't act so surprised.
