Jesus was a radical who helped to overturn the conservative authority of his time. He pointed out the hypocrisy of the religious establishment and made it very clear that we don't need any of that to have a relationship with the Divine.

Too bad more don't try to follow his example. ;)

It seems like a good opportunity to test out the laws of Karma. Kill the motherfkuca and see what you come back as in your next life. On second thoughts, you might just come back as a religious fundamentalist. Just walk on bye buddy. Knowing when not to do sh*t, is just as important as knowing when to do sh*t.

Nice. I have to remember to do that next time I get the chance.

Only 70,000 people world-wide can fluently understand Gaelic. Far from a "live" language outside of the highlands and northern Ireland. Still doesn't change the fact that it's fairly stupid to swear at someone in a language they don't understand (lest English is your second language).

On behalf of the quiet majority of Christians who think, I apologise for the jerk you met.

If you care to, you might get some good comebacks from the Gospels- specifically, mention the Matthew 6:5 (hypocritical public piety), Matthew 7:21 (having the trappings of holiness without any actual love or connection with God), or the parable of the good Samaritan (who went to help people, not passing them by).

Maybe he is thinking for himself but just not the way you want him to think.

All you have to do is complain to the dean of student affairs (or your equivalent) and they'll be banned from the school, or at least organizing I have done it man times.

We had one at UCSD. He yelled at us about all sorts of things. Eventually, students started gathering around him in a circle, mostly to laugh at him. One of the school newspapers (the one that everyone hates) showed up and started rallying behind him, but also to ridicule him.

I tell those people that it's God who will judge me when my time comes. I do consider myself a Christian (I'm a "lapsed" Catholic, to be specific), but I'm certainly not one of those Christians. "Those" Christians (protestant fundies) seem to think that Catholics aren't Christians because we acknowledge Mary as "Mother of God," which, if you believe in the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) as being God, she technically is. Oh, and they seem to have a problem with the Pope, too.

Whatever.

I don't get it, and I don't really care. I hope all the fundies who have told me I'm damned to hell for not being a fundamentalist-protestant will finally shut up when they see me in heaven, yackin' it up with God, my favorite pets, and the many good people I've met in life, including Agnostics, Catholics, Protestants, Mormons, Jehovah?s Witnesses, Muslims, and more.

I'm a baptized, mostly non-practicing Catholic who does not attend church regularly and lives a worldly life where I acknowledge scientific fact, enjoy coffee and a couple cold beers, and try to do what's right.

For all anyone on Earth knows, or can ever know, heaven, hell, and God are all a bunch of hooey anyway, but I don?t see believing in an afterlife as a bad thing.

I thought this thread was going to be about people giving you crap about your eating habits. I hate when people do that.

Point in fact English is my second language but I'm talking about quoting.

I'm not going to swear at someone in French or Spanish, although it does sound pretty cool in French. The fact is too many people here speak French and the point is lost.

It's a lot cooler to tell them off in a language they don't understand so you can hear as your walking away "whaaaa???"

I can already do that because I speak my native tounge that isn't as well known around here, but I don't do that because it doesn't sound cool.

Latin swears are much cooler.
