Cook County Judge Cynthia Brim, on trial for shoving a sheriff's deputy at the Daley Center last year, has been found not guilty of battery by reason of insanity.

The verdict was handed down this afternoon by Will County Judge Liam Brennan.

Brim had approached deputies in the Daley Center last March and, without identifying herself, asked if they had found any keys, authorities have said previously. Deputies showed her three sets of keys and Brim claimed a set and walked away.

About 10 minutes later, the judge returned and, without explanation, tossed the keys toward one deputy and shoved another in the chest with both hands, according to authorities. She was then handcuffed and arrested.

Brim has been hospitalized five times since her 1994 election after going off her anti-psychotic meds, according to testimony.

In 2004, firefighters removed her from a courtroom and took her to a hospital, said psychiatrist Matthew Markos.

Brim was hospitalized for 20 days after her arrest last year, he said. Markos said at the time Brim was hospitalized, she was catatonic, confused, irrational and showing signs of paranoia and psychosis..

wooo! nice. so they have a judge who was found NOT guilty because she is insane.

She has a history of not taking her meds.

and she is still a judge? is this a women YOU would want to decide your future?

wow..

Takes the act of a judicial review panel to strip her of such authority.

We've had at least one judge in my district stripped of his job by the board of judicial standards after he shoved a teenager while fighting over a parking space. If this woman is literally psychotic without pharmaceutical intervention, she should not be serving as a judge.

You aren't allowed to shove police deputies, especially with no provocation. Attacking the cops is generally considered a pretty serious "don't do that."

In a lot of states you're simply not allowed to shove, and this seems to be one of them. You can also get that charge if you spit on somebody, nudge, and w/e silly ass thing.

Of course most people wouldn't have went as far as pressing charges over a shove, but none the less it can be done.

As far as her being a judge with a known history of going off her meds she should've been fired (w/e the appropriate term is in this situation) already.

This would be Onion material if it weren't for the fact that it is actually real.

The fact that they (government) allowed someone under psychotic medication and with a well known history of hospitalization due to mental illness and going off her meds to preside over cases is fucking outrageous.

That is seriously messed up, to have some psychotic nutcase with a history of going off her meds still be a judge.

A Democratic Party-backed judge who won re-election in November while facing battery charges was found not guilty Monday — by reason of insanity.

Not surprising that the dems would back a complete loon with a history of delusions and psychosis for re-election, she fits right in with the rest of the party. Funny thing is that idiots in Chicago keep electing her to the bench even though she's completely crazy. Shows you the apparent intelligence of the voters there.

Sounds from the story like she's probably going to be back as a judge soon. WTF indeed.

How did a mental defective become a judge?

Its called clout. If you don't have influence with the Democratic Party in Chicago, you don't count.

The judge, she has clout. You don't. Just shut up and pay your taxes.

And oh, don't expect the police to come by your house if your car is stolen or if your house is broken into...

What part of just shut up and pay your taxes don't you understand?
