So Apple shamelessly copied Google Wallet.

Absolutely ridiculous. Wallet is a virtual wallet where you do credit card payments. To me it's pretty new and exciting. Maybe they got cues from a small company, or whatever, but in general Wallet's pretty innovating.

Passbook goes a step further and lets you use rewards cards, gift cards, plane tickets, etc. You can already use digital tickets for United, Delta, etc. but now it's all consolidated in one app.

Passbook and Wallet are fundamentally different. Ok, so Google more recently announced passbook-like functionality with Wallet. Clearly playing follow-the-leader, but that's somewhat acceptable at least.

Samsung jumps in and shamelessly steals the logo. It's like they're making NO effort at all to differentiate themselves.

BTW, wanna look at the timeline?

WWDC: Apple announces Passbook
WP8 Summit: Microsoft announces Wallet + Passbook
Google I/O: Improved Google Wallet with Passbook functionality.

I'm not accusing these 3 companies of copying, but you're full of crap if that's all you want to spew.

Samsung is in a different league here, just shamelessly copying artwork.

A picture of a book shelf with books on it shouldn't be patentable. You can see the same thing at every book store in the world. Hell, you can probably see the same thing in your own home.

But I think the presentation of books that way was stolen. Look, at the end of the day, everyone steals from everyone.

Right? Not everyone is unique.

The way Samsung does it is just shameless. It's jumping into the dogpile late, and then copying Apple or a leader specifically because they feel that's the recipe for success.

There's a difference between Apple stealing some small company's UI and a big company looking over and going "OH crap, this is going to be popular, let's copy." An example is the Microsoft Store. If they copied Nokia back when Nokia had flagship stores, who cares. They copied Apple because they saw how successful it was, and had to mimic every element. That's where you get slammed for lack of creativity. It's when you're just jumping on the success bandwagon.

It should be noted that the first person or company to come up with an idea is not necessarily also the entity best suited to execute it. Apple and Samsung show us this incredibly clearly.

I'm fairly ignorant here, but how is this different from the google now functionality for boarding passes other than the fact that it's all in 1 app?

For me google wallet's biggest incentive was that it interfaced with the NFC nicely so I can just swipe my phone at cvs or on a cab and leave without taking out my wallet. I never tried it with gift cards though. Does passport store barcodes or something like the keyring app?

Are you saying that Apple feels or displays shame when they copy then? :awe:

TBH I'm not seeing the issue. Unless Apple are going to release their version for Android, Samsungs thing isnt going to be competing with them anyway.

Now people can get all worked up about how one icon looks a bit like another one but really, thats pretty petty when they are on totally different platforms and never going to compete.

I guess one good thing Apple did was when they swiped the Swiss clock design, they paid up, albeit after the fact. $21 million in fact. Wow.

I personally would have just apologized and picked a different clock design.

I wonder what happened to the employee who swiped the design.

Heh. This thread turned out to be as entertaining as I thought it would. Was fun adding to the cage-rattling.

No one does butt-hurt quite like the usual suspects.

Which is insane for just a clock face.

Because it's oh so bad to take someone else's idea, and improve upon it?

I'm sure this has been posted before...

Regarding the issue at hand - the article and OP's content... who the fuck cares. The judge obviously had an opinion of Apples antics during and after the case, and now he brings a new perspective to Samsung's legal team. I fail to see the issue.

As others have said, if he heads BACK to the bench after all is said and done in a similar capacity as before, THEN there is definitely an issue. Until then, judgement should (rightfully) be reserved.

The android herd has the biggest cult like mentality of any group I have seen. Its hilarious to me how they have become everything they hated in apple users. The herd has truly taken it to another level.

No thanks I think most of the posts in this thread speak for themselves. I mean just look up at the infographic that was just posted by SunnyD. There is so misinformation and downright incorrect statements in there I wouldn't even know where to start.

So your post was more of a "drive by" trolling then?

I don't think Apple blatantly rips off as much as Samsung. The way Apple steals is much like how other companies operate. They got a lot of tech through acquisitions.

Please show me the internal memos where Apple wants to blatantly copy another company's success like the Samsung memo where the SGS1 was designed to mimic the iPhone.

I can think of one other company that does this, and that's Hyundai. They also admitted that their cars were designed to look like other companies' cars. Pathetic.

Look at the graphic SunnyD posted. You want to compare the iPhone 3G to that stupid slider phone? Sure you can always point out similarities, but then you compare iPhone 3GS and Galaxy S1. Far more similar. iPod with that Nomad II by Creative? Do they even look remotely the same? Maybe that wheel, but the wheel in the iPod is different enough. The way Samsung is doing it is as bad as the Chinese companies who make fake iPods.

Coming from some guy who tries to take a shot at samsung whenever he can, the accusations is as hollow as it gets. Your defensive rants are almost insane because you think everybody is out to "get apple". All I see are a bunch of people here laughing at your almost gollum-like antics screaming about his "precious" apple being hurtses by the android cult.

No it isnt. No ones going to install a Samsung app on their Android phone and suddenly think they have an iPhone because the icon looks similar.

WTF are you even talking about? I haven't defended apple once in this thread. I never said anybody is out to get apple. Samsung is a convicted shameless copier. It doesn't matter what company they copy. Samsung has no moral compass because it practically runs South Korea. If you didn't know this then maybe you should read more about the history of Samsung the corporation. This has nothing to do with apple as a company and everything to do with Samsung as a company.

Nothing you said refutes the fact that the android herd is huge and unshaken in their undying allegiance to anything android related. They are much larger, much louder and much more annoying than anything seen recently that's for sure.

After fellow moderator TheStu and I consulted, we have decided to lock this thread. First, because we are both personally pretty thoroughly exhausted with the who-copied-who threads. Secondly because I can see several people trolling in this thread - one of whom took the rare step of publicly admiting that he was trolling (Zapp, in the future, please refrain from 'rattling the cages').

While I admit that there is probably a topic worth discussing with regards to the actions of the judge in this matter, we aren't actually discussing that at all as far as I can see and so rather than hand out warnings and infractions, I'm just going to lock it.
