Judge Declares all Red-Light Camera tickets issued by Chicago 'void'

This whole thing is a fraud. You have people driving 35-40 mph down an avenue, but the speed limit is marked as 30, sometimes even 25. You're approaching an intersection with the flow of traffic, the light is green. When you get closer, it turns yellow. Based on driving in suburbs and in other civilized cities, one knows they will have time to make it through. Nope, the yellow light is short because of the posted speed limit (city has already been accused of having shorter yellow lights). And the camera catches you driving through the red light just barely before you crossed the white line. Boom, $100 gone like that. Most of the violations occur the milliseconds after a yellow light turns red. Rarely does someone actually run a red light that has been lit for more than 1 second.

I opt out of them all now.

Does anyone know what the lawyers do with all the coupons they must be getting?

Their secretaries might keep them or give them out to friends or something but the actual lawyers for the class actions suit just got a major payday. They aren't even thinking about going anywhere that accepts coupons.

I didn't even know these were a thing until yesterday. Was driving from PA (where I am a resident) to Florida and shortly after entering MD I see the speed limit drop from 60 to 50 in like few hundred yards and then suddenly a bright flash of light as I was doing about 63. It was the middle of the night, the flash really caught me off guard and was quite distracting. Took me a few seconds to realize what happened. Completely absurd and absolutely more dangerous than not. Fuck Maryland.

Got my citation today, a month and a day from the event. Apparently I was doing 62, not 63. Absolutely absurd. Safe rate of travel at that time. Not an active work zone. No one else on the road. No human being available to witness. Complete cash grab by the state of Maryland. Obviously in this juncture I'm biased; but in general, I completely oppose these unmanned ticketing approaches on a foundational basis.
