The local police in El Paso are told to just stay indoors when they hear gun fire. Bullets have hit both a local college building and the city court house.

Should people just cringe and hide from stray drug-related gunfire? Should the US send a message to Mexico or just send troops accross the border or what? Don't US citizens deserve to feel safe in their own country?

Where is Hillary Clinton? She is the secretary of state!

Where is the President?

As long as our government continues to subsidize the drug cartels there will be no way the Mexican government can possibly hold its own against them.
The first step to border security and immigration reform is rationalization of our drug laws; there is no way to secure against a multi-billion illicit industry.

Are you advocating that ordinary citizens take up arms against the cartels?

Honestly, if weapons are being fired across the border into El Paso, wouldn't that be considered an act of aggression at the very least and couldn't we validate a way to defend ourselves?
I don't know the laws/rules governing something like this, but it seems like an assault on the US, albeit an indirect one.
I'm not pointing fingers, just asking a simple question.

Well I don't think it's grounds for an invasion per se, because this is illegal gang related violence, not a mexican government sanctioned attack on our border.

It does create a legal gray area though, especially since our citizens have a right to protect themselves. What makes things iffy is that if it is deemed the only defense is a good offense which means stopping the source, which requires crossing the border.

No, merely trying to point out that a couple of stray bullets coming over the border is NOT an invasion or a threat to the US and blaming it on the President or any elected officials for that matter is lunacy.

But for the rabid right anything up to and including bad weather, natural disasters and crop failure is most certainly the work of the evil democrats and the president.

The OP should take his AR15 and his NRA membership down to El Paso and lob a few thousand rounds over the border if it will make him feel better.

An american purposefully firing across the border is even worse than stray bullets flying over.

Legalize it all, regulate sales to adults, tax it at a reasonable rate and use part of the revenues to fund drug counseling programs.
Put the drug cartels out of business by abandoning a drug prohibition policy that has failed every bit as spectacularly as alcohol prohibition did. Perhaps then Mexicans would have some chance of regaining control of their country and growing some kind of functional economy to relieve emigration pressures.

Hopefully those stray bullets only kill educated freedom loving progressives who are working in their yards clearing the roots from their drains then...

If the President isn't in charge of handling this then we may as well disband the office.

The answer is definitively no until we elect people who care.

When is that going to happen? I'm in my mid-50's, and I haven't seen it yet...

The only solution is to nuke Juarez...wait...the fallout would still hit El Paso...maybe we should...ah hell...it's El Paso. Nuke Juarez.

Tax the living crap out of it. The more the pot smoking hippie progressives have to pay in taxes maybe they will start to take notice and encourage reductions in spending.

Too high a tax will keep the street price high and encourage the existing cartels to continue business since the potential for high profits will still be there in illicit untaxed channels. Content yourself with all the money we will save that will no longer be wasted in futile enforcement efforts.

I tried to clear my drain. Except the Department of Justice brought suit against me saying the government run utilities need to do it. So here I sit... with a clogged fucking drain since I cannot get them out here to fix it.

Nice myopic view of the problem. Forget the fact that there are national parks that U.S. citizens are not allowed to go in anymore due to drug smugglers.

Wrong, again. I haven't partaken of any illicit intoxicant in decades, and would not partake now even if they were fully legalized.

The way to solve drug violence is to legalize drugs.

The way to solve illegal immigration is to legalize it.

The way to solve the problem of bullets being fired across the border is to stay indoors.

Yup, no problem liberals can't solve by simply pretending it isn't a problem.

Mexico is a failed state. Forget the middle east, We should take it over asap. At least securing its northern states/regions that border the US.

They recently found 72 more bodies at a ranch along with automatic weapons and 4 trucks disguised as military vehicles. They have lost complete control.
