Global add-in board market soars in Q4 ’19 led by AMD, reports Jon Peddie Research

Add in GPU sales have been increasing over recent times and 4th quarter 2019 continued that trend according to JPR.

Quarter-to-quarter graphics add-in board shipments increased significantly by 12.2% and increased by 33.4% year-to-year.

They also comment on Coronavirus, intel joining the segment, and maybe even a mysterious 4th player trying to join the segment as well.

Jon Peddie, president of JPR noted, “this is the third consecutive quarter of increased AIB shipments, However, Q1 which is seasonally flat to down may show an unusual dip because of supply chain interruptions from China due to the Coronavirus epidemic. 2020 is going to be a game-changer with Intel’s entry into the discrete GPU market and a possible fourth entry by an IP company.”

They also put out numbers for overall GPU/APU market share:

Well, they are at least semi/sort of competitive now on performance and power consumption in certain segments.

Yeah, looking at last year market share reminds us how much they've improved with Navi. Or is it something else?

AMD market share up 65.6%
Total sales up 33.4%
This implies a 120.9% sales increase from quarter 4 2018.

I think it's both Navi being more competitive as well as the Radeon group benefiting from Ryzen's success. It's a lot easier to get your GPUs in OEM machines if you've already expanded your relationship and offerings with the OEMs through your CPUs.

Yep, AMD has said every earnings report since its launch that they have seen strong demand for Navi. Some people didn't think they were being very honest but these numbers seem to show that they were being truthful about Navi's success.

Yup some competition and more reasonable prices

I'll grant you that there's more competition, but I don't think we've quite made a return to reasonable prices.

All we really have are two companies trying to sell GPUs at the inflated prices NVidia set.

Adding to my previous post.

Picking apart the numbers also implies the following:
Nvidia shipments increased 13.2% YoY and 6.0% from the previous quarter.
AMD's sales increased 28.8% from the previous quarter.

Of the increase in GPU sales, roughly 2/3 is attributable to increases in AMD sales and 1/3 to increased Nvidia sales.

Agreed, they are *more* reasonably priced compared to last few years. Still not great but better.
