Joystick's Axis can be off?

I have a Street Fighter 4 joystick, and it seems that the stick's horizontal and vertical angles are slightly off, like maybe 5° counter clock-wise. I first thought it's my noob-ness that needs practicing, but it's becoming clearer as I try harder. Usually I'm more comfortable when my character is on the left-hand side of screen, but with this stick it's a lot easier to make special moves when my character is on the right-hand side of screen because of this, and this makes any move a lot more error-prone.

Is there a solution to this kind of problem, other than sending it back for a repair/replacement? If it's something I can correct easily, I'm willing to void warranty and do it myself. (They gave freaking 90-day warranty anyway)

Edit: Oh, it's Madcatz Fight Stick Tournament Edition.

I've never heard of this , but I imagine it's fixable. The TE sticks are designed to make it easy to open up. You might want to check out Shoryuken.com. There's a lot of information and support available there.

Are you playing SF4 on PSN? How is the input lag there? I was just too lazy to update my PS3 and all so I've been mostly playing it on PC. (Plus unlock-all character cheat on PC 😀 )

I know the site you've cited, but they're not very noob friendly over there.. I read some stickies and did a search, but I didn't find a similar case through searches. (@srk.com)

you sure you don't hvae your joystick slightly tilted when you are playing?

i've messed with the JLF stick that is in that joystick plenty of times, and there really is no possible way that the directions can be off because the microswitches are on this PCB that is forced in place by a few pins/clips.

having issues when facing different directions is pretty normal for people when first starting out, but over time with practice you will be precise from any side.

hell i've been playing fighters as long as i can remember and i STILL have issues with that sometimes.

Yeah, the site is full of jerks. However, since your situation seems to be unusual, they might be more inclined to help. purbeast0 does have a point with how the PCB and microswitches are held in place. If it's off by 5 degrees or so, it seems like something might be defective.

I've been playing on Xbox360 to VGA lately. Input lag on the PS3 isn't bad. My TV doesn't lag much. Or are you talking about internet lag? It's definitely smoother on XBL but generally not bad on PSN.

Well, I am new to SF4 but not a complete beginner in SF series. I used to play SF2/Turbo in middle school and at the time I mastered all characters. (Though admittedly their moves were just different mixes of a few basics)

It is like getting back at playing piano after 15 years, and no, I can't pull those crazy combos yet but had no problem with hadoken/shoryuken at my first try. 😀

Would it be possible the PCB is fixed slightly off to the square gate of joystick? That's actually something akin to what I wondered.

I got used to this with most 'circular' inputs, but the real problem so far has been charge-based, fast-moving characters. (Chun-li, Blanka, Vega, etc.) Sometimes I even miss sonic boom using Guile. 🙁
