Joystick controllers for Quake2

Anybody tried the Panther XL or other joysticks with Quake2? I was hoping to get one with the twist feature for faster turnarounds/spin around...
My trackball just doesn't cut it and keyboard only play makes for prime frag bait.

sorry, nope... for me, it's always, always keyboard+mouse. true - trackball never, ever cut it for me... too jittery.

I`ve tried more then one type of joystick & joypads, anyway the best way is mouse & keyboard,so I`m with the rest of guys here 😉

🙂

I use the sidwinder j-stick and mouse combo.
You need to put the following commands in a autoexec.cfg file in your data directory:

set in_joystick "1"
set joy_advanced "1"
set joy_advaxisx "3"
set joy_advaxisy "1"
set joy_sidesensitivity "1"
joy_advancedupdate

I'm a FPS fanatic and I never found a control set that worked better than the keyboard/mouse combo. Believe me, I went through controllers aplenty and one cannot get the type of precision from anything but the aforementioned. I remember the old days playing Doom on the Sega Genesis 32X with a cordless keypad deal. THAT seemed cool enough but PC controllers don't get it for some reason. I DID recently see a cordless Intel control that looked and felt awesome but was too CS to try it. Anybody out there know what I'm talking about?
