So all black guys are ready to spring into violence and risk jail over an insult?

Someone has some prejudice here, that's for sure.

Yup, I'm racist because I understand the connotation behind a racial slur, while you think it is a part of everyday English lexicaon.

I guess I'm confused, first you said it not offensive and now you think it's an insult?

I can see you explaing to the cop: "I don't know what happened, I just eloquently asked this dumb ****** if I could borrow his grey poupon and he got unexpectedly angry."

An insult is an insult even if you are not offended. Calling me a "cracker", while i'm sure it would be intended to some how hurt/insult/demean me, would do nothing.

Being offended by letters strung together to form words is something that should stop in the 3rd grade.

Jesus H what the fuck is with this video? Crashed my browser twice.

Edit: Ok finally got to see it. Looks like they entered a customer name when he returned the item. What a bunch of dipshits. I hope they got fired.

Why do people get so damn worked up over a word? The guy probably was a dumb *****. Regardless, it's just a word. Get a grip.

interesting, it sounds like you use that word in everyday conversation. Have you ever tried the "it's just a word" reasoning when talking to a black person or is it e-testerone driven when sitting behind a keyboard?

There are no African Americans where I'm from. And no, I don't use the word in every day conversation. Doesn't mean it has to be offensive. I also don't use the word 'vagina' every day, but I'm not offended by that either.

I said black not A.A.
Vagina is an appropriate label for an anatomical location. No reasonable person should be offended by its use.
****** is an inappropriate and racist label that offends most reasonable people regardless of color. If you think it is a word that can be used in the normal adult world without repercussions then you may find out the hard way.

Exactly. Chris Rock is shunned by the normal "adult world."

Oh wait...

oh wait, I guess you still haven't been able to distinguish between entertainment and "adult world". Chris Rock and other black celerbraties aren't stupid. They know what sells, especially to cockasians (sic). I'm sure most of them don't talk that way when sitting with their business manager, sponsors, attorneys, etc.

Which proves the point that noone is really offended by the word, but they pretend to be in certain situations because it is PC.

there are plenty of people who are offended by it, I would gather more are offended than not. But the people who don't care spend money on DVD's, albums and concerts of people like Chris Rock who use it. But how many people buy a Chris Rock DVD as opposed to who don't? We have something like 300 million people in the US, the majority don't support a Chris Rock. I can personally introduce you to far more people who are greatly offended by the N word than aren't. Hell where I hang out in Long Beach if you use it, even if you're Black you're gonna get at best somebody in your face correcting you.

Also the majority of people who buy Rap albums & Chris Rock DVD's are White. Something like 85% of all sales go to white people. Most are too ignorant to even understand what the N word means. You can't expect a young white person who's never been on the receiving end of racism to understand the N word, that's why they laugh at it.

This thread went up shit creek fast...

Still, I'll throw a line in.

The word nigger is very versatile and has multiple meaning when used in different contexts. Here, the word isn't as important as the meaning behind it. For example, if the receipt said "dumb monkey" or something similar, offense would still be taking. The word isn't nearly as important as the meaning behind it.

When the black community uses the word nigger amongst each other, it usually isn't in a derogatory way. The meaning is not offensive, therefore the word is not offensive.

EDIT: Saying what I said, I don't know why the word is bleeped out here while other, possible more offensive words aren't.

It's easy to bypass the swear filters ;) I agree that it's silly to star out that one word.

The whole "words are just words" attitude is bullshit that can only be said by those who have either never experienced or choose to ignore the influence of words.

For example, if you mom called you "a mistake scumbag peice of shit that should have never happened" every day of your life, I bet you would be a bit affected.

I dont know about you, but after the 2nd day, I would no longer speak to her anymore. That would be more because it was coming from my mom, not because "piece of shit" offends me.

Oh yeah, you're just going to become independent at the age of 2 days.

Makes total sense

If you can understand English at 2 days, you're going to have a great life.

It shouldn't be too hard to fire her. Her employee number 355 is printed on the receipt. And I'm sure there is video of him at the counter returning the shoes, so it's not like she can say someone else used her employee account.

Verbal abuse can still effect infants. And even if it couldn't, a very young child (4 at the oldest) could understand the general meaning behind what his mother was saying.

Still going to be independent at the age 4?

You are ignoring the fact that you are looking at life with a different viewpoint that you would have if you experienced such a thing. Someone who is constantly berated their entirely life isn't just going to be filled with self esteem and not speak to the offending parties anymore.

Hell, it doesn't even have to be your whole life. Just look at abusive relationships, both verbal and physical. The key thing is making the subordinate role feel like shit.

You are trying to equate repeated emotional abuse on a child with calling someone a name. Sorry, doesnt fly. People who hear a slur or get called a name and go into the faux outrage are laughable at best. They go home and put on Carlos Mencia and think thats funny.

Yes, because people love to pretend to be offended

I was just trying to point out that words do have an affect on people, whether they are called slurs by people they know or by complete strangers.

Also, race is something that minorities are always reminded of. I don't know how you could not conclude that racism counts as repeated emotional abuse.

But I don't get a lot of things that you have said, so I guess it's okay.

ATOT: The cesspool of devolving idiots who fight about the stupidest shit ever.

The word is offensive to a large population of people for obvious reasons; if you can't wrap your brain around this because it's just a "word" then just STFU and move on with your lives. By that I mean worry about the next dragon you'll be slaying in world of warcraft or by going to one of other many useless threads in OT and have an in depth conversation on what super power you would pick and why if you could only have one.

Actually I take it back. It seems like America is advancing so far that the "double standard" of what you are allowed to say being based off your skin color is going away. She will probably no longer be a judge. Good job Hartford!

That's just wrong, but what will they do now? Sue the store?

I really don't think they are going to do anything. per a few posters, the word has no real meaning in american culture and should be used freely and openly in the general public. (meaning people or non-white heritage but not brown.)

i think the n-word has become more acceptable, but only in some circles. i mean rap "artists" can use the word any which way and it's fine.

true, but as a person not of that ethnicity it would still be taboo for me to use it even in a comical sense towards a friend.

btw you took a pic of the wrong pie ;)
