Not everyone loves Journey; while their instrumentalists are undeniably very talented, IMHO Steve Perry has one of the most annoying voices in popular music.

They won't go away until every child born before 1990 is dead and buried ... and even then some of those people will have indoctrinated their children with a love for 80's bands :)

So his voice is no longer on any of those crappy old Journey songs the OP referenced?

Uh, not since Trial By Fire, so more like 13 years and he also was on about a 10 year hiatus after Raised on Radio. Trial by Fire was a reunion album following a long abscence and there was supposed to be a tour in support of it but it never happened due to SP needing hip surgery. Steve Augeri, who replaced SP, was actually in the band longer than SP. Was Steve Perry Journey? Nope. Was Steve Perry responsible for a lot of Journey's commercial success? Yep.

I'm glad Arnel Pineda doesn't sound like Steve Perry lately. While he can channel him, it seems lately the band puts more emphasis on his own unique voice.

I think the Sopranos finale helped with their recent popularity - didn't that song shoot up to the number 1 song on iTunes after that? And I think it's been selling well since then.

Journey is great, they have a lot of great songs.
