This is often problem in Russia where people fall from high places after reporting on things that make Putin look bad.

Pretty good explanation in comments: "Russian investigative journalists love to jump out of windows to make Russia look bad"

Russians keep voting for Putin. His approval ratings are ridiculous for a murderer.

Let's sanction a few more Russian companies until they knock it off. Last one knocked 10% off their stock market.

At least he didn't accidentally give himself radiation poisoning or a deadly nerve agent.

Putin doesn't care about the Russian stock market. Nobody intelligent is going to invest in a country run by a syndicate anyway. Putin knows this.

Take a look at what Donald has done for the price of oil since he came into power. Oil is 80% of the Russian economy and 100% of Putin's profits. As long as the price of oil goes up and Putin still has access to European assets he is happy.

That is why Trump is allowed to put sanctions on Russia (but not Obama sections because those affect Euro money) . It helps make him look like less of an obvious puppet because US citizens do not understand the Russian economy and think that Russian stock market is important (it isn't).
