In a Windows XP environment, I'd like to be able to have file journaling as well as error correction / detection from some kind of software system that will also allow me to perform backups of this data.
I'm not sure if I'm using these terms correctly; I'd like, for example, to have a drive or directory where if I open a file, modify it, and save it, I have some way of viewing the file history and recovering previous versions if needed. While these functions are available using applications for specific file types (for a document I can use Word's track changes feature, for example) I'd like something that operates at a lower level so that the particular file type doesn't matter.
Sorry if this is vague, but I'm not sure what to look for so I'm asking here.
Thanks for any help or information.
