predictable. the guy will feel chronic pain in those knees for the rest of his life. if he returns for another year, he'll probably survive
for a couple months at most before he calls it quits for good.

It was actually darn entertaining in some games, while others were pitiful - partly because knee problems. He's at an age tho where he has to worry about serious arthritis if he continues to take a pounding on bad knees. I wish other players would learn to attack like he does, even at 39.

What I don't understand about Jordan is that he said, when he first retired way back when, that he never wanted to get that kick in the a$$ out the door that so many other players get when they get too old to play. Well... here he is, getting that kick in the a$$...

I get the impression that he came back because he loves the game and can't stay away. The man's been doing commercials all along, even when he wasn't playing.

i don't want to get into this whole discussion because i have had it with about 20 different people. but i will say this, what does him being in commercials have to do with it? i wasn't talking about more marketing for himself. i was talking about for the Wizards and the NBA. Since he has come back the Wiz went from 28th or so in attendence in the league to 1st.

The reason he called it quits for the season was because they most likely were not going to make the playoffs, in my opinion.

Regarding why he came back, I thought it was obvious (to those who know anything about basketball): he wants to make the wizards a better team. Mission accomplished. They are WAY better this year than last. They play with more confidence and competence. They walk with their heads high. They are on the road to recovery.

Does anyone really think he came back for the money? Give me a break. Read some newspapers if you think that's why he came back.

I think it's good that he is out for the season. I think it means he will be back next year (would he really want to leave like that?)

I know a few people who will be sad to hear that. My cousin for one. He has always been a Wizards season ticket holder (since back when they were the Baltimore Bullets). He used to give away the tickets to the games he didn't want to go to in raffles and give aways for people who worked for him (he runs a construction company). Once Jordan came back, he was able to sell the season tickets to any of the games that he couldn't make it to and was making some good deals. Now that Jordans gone, he probably will have to go back to giving the tickets away.

As for me, it doesn't matter. They've done better this year (even without Jordan around) than they have in about 12 previous years so I'm happy for them.

He donated his $1mil salary too. With some outstanding performances, and probably the NBA play of the year - when he blocked Ron Mercers layup, that he still has the fire. Thats not marketing, and neither is scoring 50 pts along with some game winning shots. He's got self-motivation like no one else and thats because he loves the game and loves to compete.

just because he is a great player is obviously gonna do well on the court doesn't mean it wasn't about marketing. the NBA has been losing ratings and the Wiz were in terrible trouble with a fan base. NBC was going to carry a few Wiz games but when Jordan got hurt and wasn't going to play, NBC changed to a different game. They knew the ratings weren't going to be there. i'm not saying he doesn't love the game and that he doesn't still have that fire. what i am saying is that isn't the main reason he came back. it wasn't about money for himself. anyone can see that. it was about building the Wiz franchise and getting the NBA a ratings hike. hell if i could market jordan as a reason to come to a game or watch it on tv i would.

God i hate myself for this, but i actually have to agree w/ pyonir.

David Stern and Michael Jordan have been buddies since Jordan's 3rd season.

They Screwed Dominique Wilkins a shot at much more because David Stern chose MJ. MJ got all the calls from refs, his team was designated to win by the NBA. The only reason that MJ came back was to hand of that mythical Torch to Kobe. That's it. MJ kinda screwed David Stern by leaving the game a couple of seasons early.

oh i am sure he'll get something good out of it in the long run. Front office postion in the NBA offices perhaps. he isn't the SOLE owner of the Wiz ya know. he can afford to lose money on the team...the other owners can't.
