Really going to miss this show and Jon. While his acerbic wit cut across all sides of the political spectrum I particularly love how he was able to issue beatdowns of Fox News on a regular basis.

He didn't do it by their method of repeating a lie until it stuck. He used intelligence wit, humor and a dogged pursuit of an axiom, pointing out bullshit is funny. He went into the belly of the beast Fox News Sunday and bitch slapped Chris Wallace by reaching into Fox's colon pulling out a fair and balanced turd, held it up to the public and pronounced "see it really stinks"

A brilliant A-block on Ferguson because it knocks down multiple conservative canards while dealing with issue current at that time.

I don't think anyone could fill his shoes. They'd have to spin off a different show. Hate to see him go, wonder if he's got any projects in mind?

I'm still in disbelief about it. His commentary/comedy helped many of us get through the "aughties" relatively sane despite the dark time that it was. Laughter really was the best medicine. Sad to see both him and Colbert go, but all good things must come to an end.

Yep, this sucks but he's been hinting about it for a while now. John Oliver is doing a good job of bringing issues to light but what Stewart did was bring the issue of a how negligent our news/journalists have been and he's been keeping them in check as well as, IMO, help create a "fact checking" industry and I don't know if they can fill his shoes.

First Colbert and now Stewart, intelligent political satire is disappearing. Who will step up and call out Fox News on their constant bullshit now?

Too bad HBO snatched away John Oliver because he would've been the the most seamless replacement.

Still, it's better to leave before you wear out your welcome. I still think that Jon Stewart was several years from doing that. However, 15 years is a good run. I'm just thankful that he did the show for that long at the time he did. As someone else said he made the Daily Show a voice of reason (even if just a sarcastic, acerbic one) for what was going on in the first decade of the 2000s.

Goddammit, he won't be around for Democalypse 2016. It will truly suck when he isn't around to poke at CNN, Fox, etc. This just flat out sucks. What a selfish, selfish bastard he is.

Was thinking the same thing, if his contract is up in September 2015, he'll be leaving just one year short of 2016 elections. I would have loved him to "cover" the 2016. But, can't blame the man if he's getting tired or wants to do something different. Sigh...

The question now of course is who will be Fox New's fact checker?

Pretty sure Jon wasn't digging up video clips for the show. The only thing that will change will be the delivery. Didn't Jon replace someone else to begin with?

Craig Kilborn--as mentioned in the OT thread.

The Daily Show was a very different show under Kilborn, who started it. It was basically a couple of stories about strange/weird people, and various self-serving Kilbornesque routines. I enjoyed it at the time, but it really was quite stupid. It was never politics or news--It was pretty much Tabloid/People magazine type stuff.

I recall Beth Littleford and Brian Unger being "correspondents" in those days. I want to say that Ed Helms actually started in the Kilborn days and then bled over into Stewart's show. Pretty sure that Colbert arrived with Stewart, if not shortly after.

He should run for office.

But he won't. I think he knows getting into politics would just infuriate him on a daily basis.

I think it's amazing he (and the writers) did so well for so long. He deserves a break.

After his recent film project maybe he's wants to move to directing.

Jon Stewart is a GREAT comedian imo regardless of political views. The guy has been legendary, even though I don't agree with some of his ideologies.
