Final Trailer

I don't get psyched about movies, but I can already tell Joaquin is going to kill it. I knew he could act from Gladiator.

And that soundtrack is killing it.

The movie looks good, but I'm left wondering "What does this have to do with anything?" They've already said this is a one-off unrelated to the DC Universe, so what's the point? If it does really well, they're going to end up MAKING it fit into DC, and we're going to have retcons and reinventions of everything again. If it doesn't do well, it'll just be a dangling story that everyone will forget about.

Just wish they made more of a canon story. It's a good story, and it's not been done before.

Looks interesting, but withholding judgement until it comes out. Like I said earlier in another thread, getting burned out on superhero and comic book movies.

Right....no mention of the dark knight here....so it's like he's the protagonist? Then the question comes....where's the punchline to this joke?

Villains often live to keep the story going so the hero can fight them another day... (particularly in the old batman show since zap, pow, oof...that's the worst they got...) They might as well call this "Joker Begins"....but with "Batman Begins", after he returned to the city, he fought his former comrades... Just saying, the details and flow of the story could break this film even with solid acting. Tough though to follow Ledger...he brought a new, raw dimension to the role that even Jack Nicholson couldn't even think about touching.

im probably in the minority here but I think if Heath Ledger didn't die, critics wouldn't have gushed over his portrayal of the Joker....I liked Dark Night but I didn't the the Joker was at the level everyone made it out to be...

To me it's another "why make a Batman show/movie without Batman in it?". I really don't understand why they've been making prequel to Batman things like this. They're even making a post-Batman show without Batman in it (Batwoman on CW). Pretty pointless to me

I always enjoyed Batman because it really drive home the hero is just as crazy as the villains spectacle that a lot of other super hero stuff just doesn't acknolwedge.

That being said, Joker sort of feels like a closed book. What else is there to do with the character? While Heath Ledger's performance might be overstated a bit, does it really need an update? Is there something big he missed that someone else can do better? I don't think so.

Gonna be a "watch on Netflix...maybe" for me.

It's been rumoured that the reason he got the part was for his performance in "You Were Never Really Here".

JPhoenix portrayal of the Joker would be awesome and over the top,
but the movie itself would make no sense and leave people confused. People will be wondering after they viewed it, "what did I just watch"?

Joaquin Phoenix earns rave Joker reviews at Venice Film Festival
“Joaquin Phoenix gives a tour de force performance, fearless and stunning in its emotional depth and physicality. It’s impossible to talk about this without referencing Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning performance from The Dark Knight, widely considered the definitive live-action portrayal of the Joker, so let’s talk about it. The fact is, everyone is going to be stunned by what Phoenix accomplishes, because it’s what many thought impossible — a portrayal that matches and potentially exceeds that of The Dark Knight’s Clown Prince of Crime.”

I’m excited for this movie not because what the movie will make the joker, but because what the joker will make the movie.
I don’t think you could get a big budget movie made today about a mentally ill man’s life collapsing around him as everything he does goes wrong. It would be a fantastic character drama with huge potential, but too risky. Make it about the Joker though, and you’ve got a green light.

Same. It's one of those "inside thoughts" though.

Watched the trailer last night after TheQuartering posted a video discussing it and the SJW-type braindeads saying it's a "20-30s white incel terrorist's" dream movie.

Looks like it could be good. You should see the tweets those people were making about it. If you're in need of a good laugh check out TheQuartering's video:

Heath Ledger did a good job but I usually ignore all the hype about some actor's performance because after you find out how screwed up they are. I wonder if Joaquin will OD sometime in the near future?

What do you mean pointless? It's all about making money.

Joker has enough pop culture popularity to get a movie made on its own. I didn't think 'why Joker' when I saw the trailer. I think Joker was really brought to mainstream since Health Ledger's portrayal.

I think Deadpool was a real challenge to pull it off. No one knew who the hell he is outside of comic con kids. It was a success.

I'm not sure the Joker was brought anywhere as he's as popular as Batman himself. If anything he was brought "Mainstream" back in the 80s with Nickelson playing him. As for the rest, without Batman he might as well be john wayne gacy. I've no doubt people will go watch this movie and make the studio money, but if I believe it would have made a ton more if it had a Batman in it. Hell, I'd bet that even people who don't care about comics will be wondering when Bats will cameo in this movie.

Deadpool only happened because the test footage was released and it was a 'superhero' type swearing with over the top action. The Fast and Furious movies makes tons of money doing the same over the top action so it's not a surprise that people loved the leaked footage and wanted more.

Next, a Penguin/Riddler/Two-face/Poison Ivy movie. They already did a Catwoman movie that was a commercial flop. :p:D

80s was 40 years ago. At least two gens below you got exposed to mainstream Joker afterwards.

Maybe I'm the wrong demographic but everyone I've ever known/seen including friends kids have all know Batman and the Joker. I'm not aware of any that know Batman and don't know the Joker.. and that didn't happen because of a movie that came out years ago.
