Extremely lame. Political and sexual jokes almost never funny, and this reads like two at the same time rather than a remotely cohesive mixture. -1/10.

throughout the history of modern comedy, you will rarely find a comedian that doesn't have a liberal bias. eh, assuming you stay off of the "Blue Collar Comedy" tour. :D ...and assuming you think Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy are funny....

mostly, though, they tend to be a-political. at least in their acts. focusing on one political party excludes a large source of comedy, as all politicians are idiots regardless of stance.

There is a reason conservatives are generally understood to be christian, uppity, humorless, and artistically handicapped. For all your silly biases against liberals, a collection of biases apply towards conservatives that may make you unhappy and may not apply to you, but are just as accurate.

lack of humor is absolutely associated with conservatives/Republicans. Shit, just look at Fox News and their complete inability to discern what Stewart and Colbert do from a real political message. These guys, and their viewers, absolutely define humorless.

For FUCKS SAKE: Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms?

really? you guys would keep voting for their corpses if it were allowed. :D

lol Zin, you're not helping your cause... at all.

Besides, liberals really are less able to take a joke, and its proven.
Can liberals take a joke? Not as well as conservatives can. According to a recent study from the folks at Psychology Today, conservatives have the healthier funny bone of the two.

Here's how it worked: researchers gave self identified liberals and conservatives a series of jokes. Some were more traditional, like:

Husband: When I get mad at you, you never fight back. How do you control your anger?
Wife: I clean the toilet bowl.
Husband: How does that help?
Wife: I use your toothbrush.

Others were a bit stranger, like this line from Jack Handy:

It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

The end result? Conservatives found the jokes funnier. This surprised a few academics, some of them admitted though that their idea of conservatives as humorless stiffs may be more related to the political beliefs of liberal college professors than any real-world evidence.

Uber-liberal Bill Maher says conservatives can take a joke much better (i'm looking for the quote). Probably explains why most comedy is anti-conservative.. because conservatives are fucking grownups who can take a joke. Liberals call everything offensive and fucking sue their schools when they get picked on, srsly.

Uber-liberal Bill Maher says conservatives can take a joke much better (i'm looking for the quote).

Liberals have more complex minds. We make more more mental associations. Conservatives construct fantasy worlds. Liberals connect to reality, which is often a downer.

Your "cleaning the toilet bowl with your toothbrush" joke brings up the image of unresolved marital tension, and passive-aggressiveness is not usually limited to one outlet. So, while funny on level 1, at levels 2, 3, and 4 it goes astray. Conservatives can only construct level 1 -- they need someone smarter to go any higher -- thus it's pure funny to them.

Your second joke implies assault on one hand and impotence on the other. Lots of laughs there.
Again: Level 1, funny enough. Levels 2+, downers. Conservatives again will never see past level 1 unless someone with an IQ over 100 is there to point it out.

1. No.

2. You're the only one who cares that you think this way.

As if Bill Maher speaks for The Liberals?
Who appointed him, King Limbaugh?
Offensive is just that, Humor is different.

And here we have the problem. Liberals point to Conservative pundits as references for Conservative thought, and Conservatives point to Liberal pundits as references for Liberal thought. So, given that most people have at least a mild idea of right and wrong, each side thinks the other is profoundly stupid/corrupt/whatever based on those images, furthering the "us vs them" ideology on both sides.

By the official party platforms there are very few people who are 100% liberal or 100% conservative; and identifying oneself as such is simply wrong for the vast majority of people and stupid due to the ambiguity. We need electoral reform. Badly. As it is we have a dual monopoly on politics with no room for new growth, so everyone makes a lesser of two evils choice come election day and doesn't really represent their ideals. If everyone could, and parties were more regulated, a lot of problems could be fixed.

Agreed, and well put.

It is also ironic how seriously some argue that the other side can't take a joke as good as they can. IMO, a stupid debate when what is funny can vary so widely from person to person.

Just so sick of all this left vs. right crap, while DC goes on screwing everyone over.

Of course, when they tried to plug those loopholes, the democrats in Congress blocked their attempts. Oops. :p

Imbecile. This is why eugenics should exist to filter out those with sub-110 IQs. Conservitard.

And here we have the problem. Liberals point to Conservative pundits as references for Conservative thought, and Conservatives point to Liberal pundits as references for Liberal thought.

The difference is that conservatards do let right-wing commentators do their thinking for them. They don't have the information base to directly counter the assertions, the knowledge that their dearth of information puts them at risk, nor the baseline toolset underlying critical thinking with which to emplace generalized counters. They are only set up for the delusion of independent thought.

Top liberals, OTOH, don't take what anyone says as the final say on the matter. We know how to counter rhetoric to leave a proposition at an indeterminate truth value.
"Organizing atheists is like herding cats." That's because we don't share one mind.
