Joining DPAD...Questions

Yo, I am going to be joining DPAD. Should I be working on SolenoidsTo15cm?

Also, you guys talk about being able to change the auto dump settings from 100kb to 10kb, but that setting seems to be absent from my config.txt.

While I am running the background version of this thing, is there any way to look at its stats? Like the best muon % Ive gotten and stuff.

Thanks -Nick

First of all...WELCOME nickPOWERZ!!! Great to have you crunching with us!!!😀😀😀

Setting up DPAD by DanC.

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=39&threadid=1209514&FTVAR_MSGDBTABLE=

Here's the short version of how to get started.

1. Create a directory called "Muon"
2. Download this zip file to your muon directory http://stephenbrooks.org/muon1/v433a.zip
3. Unzip the above file
4. Copy this text, and paste into a file named "results.dat" and "sampleresults.dat" http://stephenbrooks.org/muon1/sample500.txt
5. Open notepad, enter "[TA]Username" - where "Username" is YOU!
6. Save above file as "user.txt"
7. Invoke "muon1.exe" (graphical version) or "muon1_background" (background mode) or "muon1_cmdline" (DOS window)

That's it. You're running. The client will create a file called "results.txt" - this is what will be sent to the server upon upload of results. You may choose to wait until it gets to 100Kb in size - then it will dump (using FTP) on its own, or you can use manual upload. In any event - you'll need to have at least 10kb in results.txt in order to dump.

The only other thing is making an adjustment to "config.txt" if you have multiple processors.

Pretty easy!

q1. DPAD calculates results on it's own, there are 2 kinds of results, quantity and quality, results are quantity, SolenoidsTo15cm are quality.

q2. DPAD autosends the result.txt file after it reaches 100kb, you can manual send it if it's bigger than 10kb.

q3. i Think there's a viewresults.exe in the Muon folder you could use for that.

Keep those question coming if you've got any more!!!😀😀😀

Happy crunching man!!! 😀😀😀

Welcome aboard! 😀

Actually - version 4.33a is even easier.

1. Make muon directory
2. Download this file
3. Unzip the file
4. run the command line version (this will prompt you for your username, and create your user.txt file
5. Close the command line session
6. "Tweak" your settings in config.txt
7. Decide what version you want to run. muon1_background is preferred by most
8. Rock 'n roll!

The new version automatically grabs the best results every three days - although I set mine to "1".
No longer any need to mess around with results.dat! 😀

Or collect my DPAD service file, make a change in user.txt and/or config.txt and run install.

Its set up for v 4.33a already 🙂
The link is in my sig.

I'd say "Welcome Aboard," PZ, but I think you'll find you have found a HOME! as opposed to a boat or ship.

Welcome, welcome, welcome.

WElcome nickPowerz!!!

we are a tight knit group willing to help one another out (as any TA team). hope you enjoy your stay, dont be a stranger...and slipstreams stats > all!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! I think I've got it humming along now. Those slipstream stats are very nice; they are exactly what I was looking for.

Go TeAm! 😉

I just hate it when new guys hum. Makes me worry about my "stats security." 😀

My bud, Cowboy, will be joining TeAm AnandTech DPAD this evening. He runs a "highly modifed" Tandy 1000," and 3 TRS-80s, so watch out! :camera:

Lol, I don't know what those are but I'm sure they'll be past my single 2400+ in no time 🙁 That is, until I go home and assimilate some more computers. 😉

I got another question...what is the method to this things saving madness. Like the setting is every 240 seconds, but the intervals that it gets saved to the results.txt file are very random. Right now it hasn't added a new entry to the results.txt file for like two hours or more, and I noticed a queue.txt file created. It has multiple muon results and a value of 1000+ Mpts.

Lol, I don't know what those are
LMAO... your age is showing, young man. 😉

Skipper - want to help him out a bit?
Here's a hint: If you remember them - you likely have gray hair. He's being facetious.

As to your question:
You're being too analytical. The "save" you refer to is only saving the current WU into a file called autocli.sav

All it does is keep your current WU safe in case of shutdown. Results aren't saved to results.dat and results.txt until the current simulation is done. You'll notice that it goes wildly up and down. The reason is that the client is trying new combinations - in addition to optimized combinations. It's only that way that we actually assist in the "science" of the project - otherwise we're merely stats whor3s. 😉

Lol, I googled it and now I understand. 🙂 Although I was very young when those came out, I do have memories of a Apple Classic my family had, I think that might be around the same awesomeness.

And thanks, I get the saving thing now, I can't wait til this current one goes into the results.txt, it's gonna be a big one.

Have any of you guys ever had problems where your computer would hang because of DPAD? Mine is randomly hanging for a few seconds here and there (by hanging I mean completely stop and then continue as normal). It is especially noticable when playing games, but I can feel it (not as bad and not as often) in windows. I'm on the latest version, 4.33a.

i turn DPAD off when i game, mainly because the P4 with HT still hogs all the memory bandwidth my game needs when the HT logical CPU part is still running DPAD.

But it doesn't make any of my machines choppy, maybe you can try running the DOS version instead of the backround one. The DOS verions seems to run really smooth to me
