Cool, another member of the SETI effort! Tell us about your computer (or fleet of computers)! 🙂 Do you know where to find the AnandTech stats already? Also keep an eye on the Forum here for daily SETI team stats, posted by Hellburner and Fardringle.

woooooMoooooo (sorry its a cow...just couldn't think of the best way to portrait an alien sound 😉 )

welcome to the team tho! 😀

Don't mind any of the internal problems you may notice...we've just been trying to work a few issues out so we can become the best team again 🙂 (best doesn't mean #1 either)

Also, if you are into IRC or would like to talk to some of us anyway...set your IRC client to the server "irc.teamanandtech.com" and then just join #teamanandtech! 😀
Its really a great place to hang out. We just like to have fun, talk to eachother, and stuff like that 😉. You won't find any swearing or flaming or anything else thats not nice, hehe.

Well, once again...WELCOME TO THE TeAm!

Got a couple running it, a quad Xeon733 at work (but running as a notes server, so cpu time isnt great), another couple of servers run it at work as well, and my home pc a twin 733 Copermine.... should be ok, although I dont have it set to always run at home, (just changed that though)....

So should be good....

added 568 when I joined... knowhere near the top but hey.... not too shabby.

Oh yeah home pc is on Windows Whistler (I'm on the beta), seems to be quite good on that, better than the work pc (running 2k), but I spose a second processor helps 😉

anyway, howdy all.....

Wow! (I don't know what else to say when I hear the words "quad Xeon", LOL) 😉

You'd better be careful with the words "Quad Xeon" in this forum as they have been known to provoke spontaneous drooling and/or worshipping... 😀

Welcome to the TeAm! Crack long and prosper! 🙂

Welcome to the team TheApe. 🙂

Welcome also to the Quad Xeon club. Please leave your hat at the door. 😉

🙂 Welcome Aboard 🙂

The drinks are in the cooler, the food's on the table, the party gets a little rowdy at times but mostly we all have a pretty good time 🙂

Welcome TheApe, it's good to have you with us.🙂

BTW I noticed you said you've just set seti to run all the time. Are you running the gui or the cli now? The cli is considerably faster than the gui unless something has changed recently. You might look into running it if you're not already.😀

Welcome! 😀

If you're running the GUI (screensaver) on your dual PC at home, I don't think it'll use all the processing power since SETI isn't SMP capable. You'll need to run two instances of the CLI to get the best output.

If you just run the GUI on a dual machine, it'll use one processor to draw the graphs, and another to actually do the calculations. Not very efficient. 🙂

Downloading the text client now, thanks for all the info, may install the text client as a service on the 4xXeon at work when I get back...... (still running the Gui version)... Oh well

HOW MUCH FASTER is the text client, jeese I didnt realise how much the gui was trying to do more than it had to, performance on my home pc has doubled........

Thanks for the info....

Welcome to the team The Ape 😀

A very nice fleet you have 🙂 Quad Xeons 😀 wow!

BTW ref GUI speed vs CLi speed ,if for some reason you have to run the GUI version make sure that you enable 'blank screen' in the screen saver settings & set it to less than 5 mins ,this disables the graphics & will roughly halve the WU time (this brings it much closer to the CLi times).Another way is to set it to 'always run' & disable the screensaver totally & minimising the SETI window.

With all that power you have you'll soon be screaming up the charts 😀

TheApe, don't forget the cli isn't smp capable either you'll have to run one instance for each cpu you have.🙂
