Who else is moved to tears by this cover? Great and awesome don't even scratch the surface of how deep and emotional it is. The mirror of a lifetime compressed in a few minutes. The look in Johnny's eyes. The quiver in his voice. His once powerful frame now so frail. The shake of his hand as he pours wine like his lifeblood on the table. When you see June looking at him and you know she'll die a month after the video was filmed and him too four months later... The hurt, the cut is deep. Felt right through your soul.

I don't care for it at all, he changed the meaning by changing the words and the imagery in the video.

Trent Reznor loves it though, so I guess that's what matters. Personally I don't care for it.

It's one of the best covers I've ever heard. I lost it the first time I saw that video a few years ago, granted, I was going through a tough time at that point.

Absolutely agree with everything you said OP, I think I've said that before regarding the cover. The parts with June were pretty heartwrenching. Then seeing his life compressed into such a brief video was amazing.

I remember MTV had some justin timberlake mind-dump win video of the year award over Hurt. Bunch of garbage.

edit: It won a Grammy & Country Music Award for Best Video though, so that's better

What else did he change besides changing 'shit' to 'thorns'?

Very good cover. I do have to say that I was abit moved by it too. You can really feel the emotion in his words.

I think he must have known that his time was coming, and he really reflected that quite well in the song. Very good cover.

Agree. It's one of the best covers, and one of most moving songs I have ever heard.

Hurt is fine... but for a tear jerker from Cash, Spiritual is the all time winnner.
Talk about knowing you're on your way out.

"We got married in a fever, hotter than a pepper sprout!"

I agree... I love the cover.

great cover. i think reznor said "the song belongs to him now" or something to that effect.
