R.I.P.

i have only seen few clips of his show but he looks like a very edible guy

sad to see good people go

As much as I liked Johnny, I never wanted to eat him.

I was never a big fan of the Tonight Show and Johnny Carson. That being said I do think he was a big impact on society and entertainment by and large. He will be missed.

Additionally, I pity the fool who did not even know who Johnny Carson was. One other ATOT idiot I need to steer clear from.

every once and a while you can catch reruns of some of his really old shows (70's era). funny as hell
RIP

like many i oonly know his through short clips... wasnt that funny really..old peoples humor. that being said i know he blazed the trail for leno and such.

Carson wasn't "just some guy on tv"...he was an american icon support troops oversees, practically starting the careers of 100's of comedians, and did more for the entertainment world than anyone else out there imho, and did a lot of stuff for the community and people of america than most people my age care to comprehend.

To the guy saying "dunno who he is" it is an insult to all the troops out there during vietnam who looked to him to get their mind off the war, its an insult to all the movie actors out there that looked to johnny as a starting point in their career and like a father figure, and I feel its an insult to me as an american in the sense that johnny carson was the true spirit of an american; giving people opportunities, helping people along the way, and making millions smile.

Back in the seventies I often went to High School on about 4 hours sleep because of my addiction to watching his stint on the Tonight Show. Not like we had internet at home then! 🙂

I just turned on the TV and was wondering why they were running a Carson special on NBC. Then I saw this thread.

RIP Johnny

NBC reports that Johnny Carson has died from emphysema

Is this confirmed? I didn't know he smoked. If he had quit, how long did he smoke and when did he quit?

You don't have to smoke to develop emphysema. Centriacinar emphysema is associated with smoking, panacinar emphysema is associated with Alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency, and Proteinase/antiproteinase imbalance can also cause emphysema.

RIP Johnny. You were a funny man.

Eh is it wrong just because you never heard of a person before? I never knew who he was too.

RIP btw.

This is so sad 🙁 Johnny Carson was a personal hero of mine. I, like many people, were very disappointed that he dropped out of the lime light when he left the Tonight Show. His class will never be duplicated again.

Yes, he smoked, but he did quit over a decade ago (if not much more)

I'd really like to know how long he smoked. I'm surprised. I never pictured him as a smoker.

He was well known for having a lit cigarette he would puff on between commercials. Sometimes the camera would catch him in mid drag when they came back from break. He smoked until the late 80's and incorporated his struggle quitting into his monologue often.

Thanks big tobacco, for taking yet another person.
