yep, the Lensmen series is the SF equivalent of Homer's Odyssey in how it's influenced later SF from Brin to JMS / Babylon 5 [season 1 out on DVD tomorrow]. Plus it's still a great read.

But this Doc Smith was a good character actor and was a fun part of my childhood. So give him his due.

Heh, I waited on Harris when he was in Flint to do some play at the Whiting Auditorium. That was...10 years ago and he was looking pretty old and nearly dead then.

I loved 'Lost In Space' RERUNS, you know, because I was too young to watch when it was current (not even born yet in fact).

RIP Dr. Smith.
