Has anyone else heard about a guy calling himself John Titor who posted on Internet message boards several times in 2000 and 2001 claiming to be a time traveler from the year 2036? He gave detailed scientific information on how his time machine works and information on what's going to happen soon.

He says that a civil war will start in the USA in 2005 due to the government taking away the civil liberties of the citizens that will go on until 2015. In 2015 Russia will destroy the major US cities with a brief nuclear missle strike starting a world war that kills 3 billion people. :Q

There's a web site called John Titor - Time Traveler that has a compilation of what he posted and diagrams if what he says is his time machine.

So he wants us to believe that after a total nuclear world war, there will be enough technology left to build a time machine just a decade or so later?

Here's my insight on the time travel thing.

If it can be built, then we would have already heard of it. Let's say someone in 2100 builds it, it would eventually get leaked down to the year 2000 because of some crazy guy, and until the beginning of time. Even if they found a way to "lock" up the time machine to specific years, there is infinite time for them, so some guy would probably go back in time anyway.

"John Titor" probably gave his most accurate predictions and hoped that something would come true.

Attention whore.

The date is contructed on a basic psychological process...its close enough to be worrisome, but not distant enough to be put off. Notice doomsday predictions these days are never about sometime 200+ years or great, its always "just around the corner"....

I find it amusing that in the future the entertainment industry, one of the largest industries in the world, no longer is capable of producing television, movies, or music on a mainstream commercial basis as we know it today, but General Electric is still exists and they manufacture time machines.

there is a book called something like "exploring the physical possibilities of time travel" that use a lot of movie and popular culture examples to explain what may be possible. personally, i like the 12 monkeys approach. that is, yes time travel is impossible, but like everything else it is run by buerocratic idiots so nothing ever gets done correctly or accuratly.

What about that dude who made millions in like 2 weeks of trading stocks?
He said he was able to do so because he was from the future

We already know that Bill & Ted are going to create world peace through their most excellent music, so this John Titor can't be right. Bogus!

i think that time travelling is possible, but only going through the future (i.e. you go so fast that time slows down for you, but not everyone else, so therefore you are travelling forward through time)

if, as he says, there is a war that kills 3 billion people, why would he mention something that only killed several thousand?

I'm skimply briefing over this & I think he talks about 9-11 in this dated 02-09-2001 02:02 PM: "Waco, Ruby Ridge and Elian exist in your news archives. Telling you about impending plane crashes or other disasters (provided I could give you exact dates and times) may save lives at one point but cause cascading changes that take others at a later point."

In a random post in 2001 he writes: "Care to share with me how you solved the overheating problem on your space plane?"

Both statements are vague. Plane crashes and disasters occur all the time. Also, if he were specifically mentioning the Columbia tragedy, he would have said "space shuttle," not "space plane." Space plane? Gimme a break. Besides, it wasn't an overheating problem that caused the accident.
