I've been watching it on TNT tonight, wow what a steamy pile.

Great premise they could have done a lot with the story, but HORRIBLE execution.

Well that's how I spent my Friday night, watching a crappy, commercial ridden, drama.

Bah I'm going to bed. Give me my cookie

bahahaha and they're going to be running encores!

oh it's really really bad. The first part wasn't that bad, but whoooaa they must've gone on the crack pipe for the second hand of the movie.

If you wanna see a real crapper and have 2.5 hours you want to kill. Watch it on TNT.

I don't know, I always liked that movie. Whenever I saw it when flipping through channels, I felt compelled to watch the rest of it. Exactly what would you have changed in the second have there Mr. Spielberg?

well since you asked.... 😀

Overall it felt like the movie was one big movie star parade. They had many great actors, but they didn't do much to develope their secondary roles. It's like the directory assumed the audience would recognize the archetypical charaters those actors usually play so let's just throw them in there. A good drama should rely on character interaction. But here the director seemed to have gotten lost trying to address the "Big Issue". And even that message gets muddy. I don't know about you, but didn't it seem these were some of the most stupidest 2d characters you've ever watched?

Take Robert Duvall's Lt. character. He's a great actor, but his character did nothing. He barely talked to John Q, he had a few standard squabbles with the Chief (Ray Liotta... comon!) , and you get the sense that he's an old timer. But that's it. Nothing more, and he's one of the main charaters!

No snipers on rooftops? The cops are a joke. Did you see the guy on the rooftop across the hospital pointing a shotgun menacingly?

I could go on, but I don't feel like expending anymore thought on a movie this crappy.

--edit--
See more bashing here

John Q is what happens when you try too hard to make a film wrapped around a political statement. They get too wrapped up in the politics and completely ignore everything else.

Let me guess : Denzil Washington plays some poor down on his black guy that tries to do something , but the man ( aka WHITE PEOPLE) are against it .

He's a guy with a sick kid, but doesn't have the money to help him and his insurance refuses the procedure. So his solution is to take the hospital hostage and force others to do it.

The funny part is, this is a sort of reverse slavery. Making those who can provide do so against their will. It is the very essence of socialism.

It was supposed to show how healthcare should be a right. But in reality it shows how the labor of others can NEVER be a right. To make such laws is to condemn some to slavery.
