McEnroe was enjoying a sunshine break in St. Barts with wife Patty Smyth and one of his daughters
Tennis legend John McEnroe may have swapped his tennis racket for commentating duties - but he is clearly still match-fit as he showed off an enviable physique on the beach, at just shy of 50 years of age.

The former world number one hit the sandy beach at St Bart's just weeks after his 49th birthday and revealed a still trim physique, which wouldn't look out of place on the tennis court.

An onlooker said: "He looked very happy and relaxed. He was very caring with his wife and daughter, he was really looking after them and enjoying their company."

The family, along with some friends, were enjoying an afternoon dip at Saline beach, one of the island's most famous beaches.

It is also known for having nudists - but thankfully McEnroe kept his surfer-style shorts on.

was he ever buff then? which means, "having good muscle tone; physically fit and trim."

I've always defined buff as "ripped" or "jacked"....meaning more muscular

He still plays regularly in the senior leagues. I was really hoping for a Serena vs McEnroe match back when there were words exchanged, but it never happened. I can't imagine how Serena would stand a chance. Maybe if McEnroe broke is hip.

I have to agree with this. Being "buffed" implies more muscle bulk.

He's a jock. Been a jock all his life. So it shouldn't be a surprise when he shows up on a beach with a flat tummy.

He probably practices tennis and workout most days of the week and has a good diet. Most of us are too lazy or too busy to work out.

Definitely not buff, but he looks to be in great shape for any age, imo.
