John McCain: It's tough to be proud of our country

The repubs have been attacking Michelle Obama over her comment that she's proud of her country for the first time in a long time.

Those comments were taken out of context and blown way out of proportion by the media. The question is: will John McCain get a free pass for saying it's tough to be proud of our country?

During a virtual town hall (really just a conference call, but McCain likes to call anything, including staged political rallies, town halls these days), he was asked by a caller, "How can I be proud of my country?"

His response: "I?ll admit to you that it?s tough, it?s tough in some respects."

Because blacks are sometimes viewed as a fifth column in this country. While it's suspicious for Michelle Obama to say such things, it's OK for McCain to say the same.

Oh, and Michelle's a democrat, so she isn't patriotic.

Ah, he said it was tough and not that he wasn't proud. True grit baby.

Yeh- I'm sure the rest of the rightwing fanclub will show up shortly to do their own version of a pirouette on the head of a pin, as well...

Kudos to McCain for playing it straight and honest, however...

When McCain says it it's straight and honest. When Michelle Obama says it it's unpatriotic.

That's ridiculous.
