BTW, have any of you listened to Mayer's song, "Tracing"? It came out around the time of Heavier Things (I think it was a European single). Great song.

I saw him live in Cary, NC a few years back when I was courting some other chick. Definitely a great live act...BUT...the screaming/wailing teenie bopper biatches just ruin the experience.

I'm still trying to decided whether I like Room for Squares or Contiuum the best. Heavier Things is junk to me with the exception of Split Screen Sadness and Home Life.

Inside Wants Out also has its moments:

Hey, I gave my GF my CD after I ripped it to my iPod. Does anyone know if Sting wrote "Belief?" It sure does sound like a Sting song through and through. I know that Sting wrote "Message in a Bottle" that John song on Any Given Thursday.

In my research for the "story" behind "Belief" I came across this video of him performing it live.

But not surprsingling, from everything I've punched into Google on "Belief," it appears that everyone says its a homage to Sting's earlier work.

I am not sure what you are asking. Are you asking if Sting wrote Belief for John Mayer? Message in a Bottle is a classic Sting song (it's no secret he wrote it) and John Mayer covered it (though this is news to me since I don't remember hearing it on Any Given Thursday). Or are you saying this might be another cover?

I know that Message in a Bottle is a Sting song. Mayer sang it on AGT, Disc 1.

There was some blues special on PBS with John Mayer and a bunch of guests including BB King. :Q I saw the last little bit of it and I haven't seen it since.

That kid's amazing. I've been diggin his music since he first hit the radio. I raced off to buy the CD and I get pretty antsy waiting for the next one.

I swear man, I think that Stop This Train is simply MARVELOUS. I can't stop listening to it. It just has that smooth, soothing flavor to it like 3x5 and Split Screen Sadness.

The whole album is Gold...pure gold.

I agree one hundred percent. His last album seemed to be moving towards more overproduced pop songs. If this new one takes a different direction, I'll consider picking it up.

Ya, I heard the current album on the radio and it's no different. His stuff doesn't even work for me as a guilty pleasure. The Trio song they played on the radio sounded like a Stevie Ray Vaughan ripoff.

Did you hear the whole album or just "Waiting on the World to Change?" If you just heard that one song, then I agree that it's the most "poppy" song on the whole album.

that'd be his austin city limits appearance with special guests buddy guy and double trouble. mostly his pop act, but the 3 or so songs with BG and DT belt out the blues rool;

Continuum is really really good. And I saw John Mayer with Sheryl Crow (booo!!!) last Wednesday at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. Mayer rocked the effing house. Sheryl Crow wasn't bad either, but she just gets on my nerves!!

I went to Saratoga Performing Arts Center and Darien Lake. Both shows were unbelievable. Second row center for both =) I also went to sound check at Darien Lake.

yeah, the locations for this tour were pretty unusual. He said he wanted to go with a lot of outdoor, relaxed venues. I'm really surprised he didn't play in the Central Park Amphitheater. Anyway, I think that after this joint tour with Sheryl he is going to take a 2 week break then go on a solo Continuum tour. I'm sure you'll have your chance then.

He's been trying to break that image for a long time. I read an article where he stated that he begged his record label manager not to put daughters on the album. He pretty much didn't want anyone hearing that song. However, the song was put on the album, and that solidified his position as a "teenie bopper" pop artist. Now he's finally starting to be taken seriously. I suggest you guys "find" Hummingbird with BB King, You Can Make it if You Try with Sly and the Family Stone, Stitched up with Herbie Hancock and Man on the Side from his Any Given Thursday CD. Inner City Blues is awesome too from his As/Is CD. Might be harder to find, but it's an amazing cover of the Marvin Gaye song.
