Searched and didn't see a thread on this.

I don't watch a lot of NFL games, but I missed him in the booth, have thought of him from time to time, figuring he was watching the games. Kind of disappeared from view/hearing all of a sudden when he retired from broadcasting games. He seemed to come from a place others didn't.

No more pointless scribbling shapes and arrows on the screen and being Captain Obvious.

It's been going for decades now already and I'm sure...EA, is it?...owns the rights to using his name, but I wonder how long the 'Madden' name being used for NFL video games will continue.

I guess I was the right age. He really made watching a football game entertaining, and you could tell he really just loved the game and was being himself, bigger than life. Never played any Madden electronic games.
RIP.

When I saw the news, I thought "Wait I thought he died Yeats ago!"
No, he lived in Pleasanton, CA, Bay Area suburb. Just totally under the radar after he retired. There was the game but personal appearances in any capacity I'm unaware of. Not that I'm hugely into the NFL. I don't game either, so never saw John Madden NFL but was aware it was (IS!) huge.

"Madden NFL" is such a strong brand, I doubt they change it. I'm sure most kids already have no idea who Madden was anyways.

Funniest thing I remember from Madden. A game with the Bears when the ball was fumbled twice in one play and carried to opposite sides of the field. Madden caught Refrigerator Perry not running after the ball. He highlighted it on the telestrator and then said. "I bet if that ball had been a ham sandwich he would have chased it.
