Is this the way Cavett's show always went. He said maybe 20 words the whole time. ;)

The show was interesting. Did that O'Neill guy ever go anywhere in government?

Not as I recall. Dick Cavett was one sharp and witty guy -- generally he had more imput. I don't think he usually had two people debating each other, and, in this case, just stood back and let those two well spoken and obviously sincere young Navy veterans speak their respective pieces.

Good question about O'Neill, I don't know. He certainly had the chops (said even as I disagree with him).

I can't help contrast either one of them with George Bush (sigh).

According to something I read (forget where) O'Neill kind of "hung around" DC moving in and out of politics. Our policies in Viet Nam and the fall of Saigon pissed him off so he left public service in '75. He's a trial lawyer in Texas.
