John Frusciante quits RHCP

Yeah I heard this a few days ago. While RHCP won't be the same without him, it might be good just on the fact that Flea/Smith will become more prominent on the songs. Last few albums, while they had some good songs, were very "Lets see how many layers of tracks John can add on top of eachother." Flea just wasn't as noticeable as in their earlier works, which as a bassist with great admiration for Flea, I was more than irked about. Flea complained about it the last hiatus/fight that the band had as well.

We'll see what happens.

I'm apathetic about this. RHCP used to be one of my favorite bands, but that was nearly 20 years ago(!), and mostly because of BSSM. They don't have that kind of fire any more. They all went and got old.

Would have loved to have seen the followup album they should have made in '94 in an alternate universe with a sober Frusciante, but that didn't happen. I'm meh about most of their output since Frusciante came back in '99. Californication was OK, but the fact that they reached their height of popularity with it says something about how shitty the pop/rock charts were becoming at the end of the 90's.

Oh well.
