John Edwards- good looking, charismatic, socialist. I hope to god he doesn't win, but he is a serious threat. He may very well get the nomination. He is the candidate I would be most worried about if I were GW. The other dolts don't have a chance. I don't think GW is particularly inspiring, but everyone else is either nausiating or loves taxes and social programs too much. Some of the candidates are both.

this is all window dressing for 2008, since nobody's going to take "W".

Maybe he can get some advice by channeling dead presidents.

"I sense a man
He's tall
Wearing a stovepipe hat
Saying something like 'Watch your back'."

The best way to win Pres in 2008, is to run in 2004 increasing name recognition, etc... then run again in 2008.

Better than the other names being tossed around, Clinton, Gebhardt, Lieberman, Daeshell.
Still wont vote for any of them.

Unless he manages to acquire "Al Gore Syndrome" where no one wants anything to do with him four years later after an amazingly inept run at the presidency. Doubt this will happen though since Edwards seems a much more savvy fellow than AG.

Hmmm. I think this guy has spunk. He seems charismatic and he pulls no punches going after the GOP and it's "by the special interests, for the special interests" attack.

Bush should be worried.

Like he would worry about a hangnail...

I'm here in NC and he is far too young and [politically] inexperienced.
Only one term as Senator and local repubs only scratched the smear campaign surface with Edwards. Nope, next contestant please...

Yeah, he has more charisma than Al Gore could ever WISH to have. He's got two small kids (boy and a girl) and a kid in college. Self-made millionaire (well, with the help of court settlements;)), and he can actually SPEAK without stumbling/awkard pauses (unlike Bush), and he doesn't put me to sleep (like Gore/Lieberman).

The only problem is that only 35% of the people here in NC support him (down from 41%) and only 5% of the people in the US would vote for him as the Democratic nominee from the latest polls.

But if I follow his own advice from his news conference this morning, "I don't put much emphasis on opinion polls before or after the fact"

I don't think anything personifies the Democrat party quite as well as a personal injury lawyer.

There once was a young man in his late thirties. His father was a decorated Navy pilot and career politician. The son graduated from Andover, Yale undergrad, and Harvard Business school with marginal grades by his own admission. He gained access to his educational opportunities (which he admittedly wasted) because his family had means and he benefited from legacy. He would have been a lawyer but he was denied admission to the University of Texas-Austin School of Law (they apparently believed in merit).

Although he met the barest of qualifications, he acquired a coveted spot in the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War. During his tenure neither he nor the Guard can account for his whereabouts for an entire YEAR. Unlike most college students he continued to drink in excess well into his late thirties (amongst other vices). His token MBA, charm, and ability to tap into his father's connections led to a string of failed business ventures (Arbusto, Bush Exploration, Spectrum 7, Harken Energy) and one successful one . . .

Texas Rangers increased in book value from $83million to $138 million with their new stadium. As managing partner, this man advocated legislation which created the Arlington Sports Authority. This authority then condemned PRIVATE PROPERTY and collected $191 million of the people's money to build the Texas Rangers a stadium. He borrowed $640,000 which was 2% of prestadium value and his contract required the 2% to become 11% once the primary investors recovered their investment . . . which occurred as soon as the stadium was built on the public's dime. When elected governor he put all his holdings into a blind trust - except the baseball team. He cashed out in 1998 collecting $15.4 million. In the meantime, a jury ordered the Sports Authority to pay $4.2million as the just price for the stadium plot. The Ranger's contended the money would be paid only by the Sports Authority . . . not the Rangers or the city. Unfortunately, the Sports Authority is the city.

He was elected governor of TX . . . using other people's money. Although he was considered a political lightweight compared to more experienced and respected candidates (John McCain) he was nominated and elected President . . . using other people's money.

In the meantime, another young man born in Seneca, SC was growing up in Robbins, NC. He attended ONLY public schools including a Bachelor of Science with Honors from NC State and a law degree with Honors from UNC-Chapel Hill. He earned his money as a blood-sucking trial lawyer but at least it was honest (profitable) work. His most noted case was expensive ($24M) but ultimately made pools safer. He is almost single-handedly responsible for certain malpractice laws in NC . . . that's good and bad.

He was elected senator of North Carolina . . . using $6 million of his OWN money.

Personally, I don't think either one is a good Republican.

He does look like him and have the same name!

Edit: Being a sexy beast will get him the presidency like it did for Kennedy right?

Nope. That's a picture of Sen Edwards. The crossing over guy is John Edward.....no "s" on the end.

That case was nasty as hell. A five year-old girl had most of her large and small intestine sucked out of her by a children's pool drain. This was no McDonalds-Spilled-Coffee case, and the manufacturer got what it deserved, IMO.

from CNN.com:

Edwards' case in North Carolina brought the largest damage award in the state's history. The details are particularly horrific, and Edwards, who himself lost a child in a car accident, grows somber when telling them.

Five-year-old Valerie Lakey was playing in a children's pool when she sat on the drain at the bottom of the shallow pool. The drain cover had come off and she was unable to pull herself away because of the power of the suction. When someone finally was able to turn off the pump, the pull from the drain was so strong that most of her large and small intestines had been sucked out.

Lakey survived, but she is unable to digest food without the use of a feeding tube. During the course of the two-month trial, it came to light that similar incidents had occurred in other pools with the same equipment. In addition to winning the damages, Edwards was able to force the manufacturer to redesign its pool system to prevent similar incidents.

I considered working for his campaign but trial lawyers and physicians are mortal enemies. Contrary to the babble from the Right of Center . . . even Bush's exaggerations about private sector achievements pale in comparison to Edwards' reality. I'm neither a trial lawyer nor Edwards fan but they've helped more than hurt in North Carolina. Regardless, trial lawyers still bite:disgust: . . . almost as much as political posers.

Hes not a threat to Bush. Clinton is more likely to get the Dem nod than he is, and shes not even going to run in 2004. Al Sharpton is going to be a problem for the democrats. When all is said and done though it will be Bush vs Kerry in 2004. Bush will win.
