John David Booty = OVERRATED

Seriously. I know USC is #1 and that makes him automatically a Heisman candidate, but seriously. I remember last year's Cal USC matchup. Everyone gave USC the nod which I agreed with. However, it was because Cal's offensive in terms of receiving and o-line wasn't good enough. In addition, our rushing defense was lacking. However, Longshore matched Booty in yardage and offense.

This year, we see Booty struggling again. He's struggling now against the Huskies. If anything, I think Oregon's Dennis Dixon is a lot better and more of a legitimate Heisman candidate. With the spread offense and his consistent passing and rushing stats, I don't see why Booty should hold an advantage. USC's o-line is insane and it always has been. Great blocks allow the running game to continue despite Booty's lackluster performance.

Thus, when Booty struggles, the USC offense slows to a halt. Look at the UCLA game and the OSU game.

Leinart was a good QB no doubt, but he also had a great set of receivers to work with. I really don't like how the Heisman always gives spotlight to the top ranked teams even when the players aren't completely top notch. Bush and Leinart deserved Heisman trophies, but I think Booty is just overrated. The media gives him a lot more credit than he deserves.

Damn, that's a rough last name. My heart goes out to John David Booty in this difficult time (his entire life).

nah, but LSU will get a few more votes if USC keeps this one close

Great game so far, I hope Ty continues to do well.

I never thought Booty was a Heisman candidate. He isn't a bad quarterback, but not great either. Last year he had great receivers which certainly helped him last year. This year with a very young receiving corps, he has to do a lot.

When he was competing for the job, I was hoping Sanchez would win it.

With the trouble Washington gave USC tonight all the trojan haters (myself included) can take heart. Cal, Oregon and UCLA are better teams and much up a lot better. Heck, ASU could be a tough game.

Looks like USC is bound to lose a couple of games like last year. It'll be interesting to see how the top teams will pan out by the end of the season, this weekend already provided a huge shake up.

god, what a horrible game

I'm sure the AP will make up some lame excuses and still rank them #1 anyway...

After the first couple weeks, you really have to lose to move down in the human polls...

But take heart; after a few weeks of playing powder puff teams (this year, that includes Notre Dame in South Bend), the Trojans have away games at the other three ranked Pac 10 teams and UCLA who always gives them a tough time. If USC runs that gauntlet and comes out unscathed, they'll definitely deserve their ranking.
