I don't think anyone can top the Japanese (for first world counties at least) when it comes to weird food, especially seafood.

hmm kind of like War of the Worlds on a miniature scale, except in the move the lobster was us dangling for entertainment then the big gulp.

i have eating live sashimi before... i didn't order it myself, when the fish show up on a bed of shaved ice, it was still alive with 1/2 of his body. to be nice to the host, i ate two slices....
it was tender but not smooth.

they took the plate away and use the other 1/2 of the fish for soup.

Don't know the name of the fish in english but it is "Seriola dumerili" pic

Nice video. Anandtech sent me an email alerting me to a lobster thread. I have no clue how that happened....

:S

Probably something you did a long time ago.

There's a restaurant a block away from me that serves this. I saw the chef prepare it when I went there for the first time. He takes a lobster, cuts it in half, puts the tail on the plate, then stands the head up on end and puts it on the plate as well. The arms wriggle around while the server brings it to the table.

The restaurant is fantastic. I don't think I'll go for the lobster sashimi, but I want to try the sea urchin next time. Oh, they have bluefin tuna sashimi there too, but it's $250 for a single order.

Isn't this the head honcho of TTZ?

Yeah, but he spends more time on his blog than on TTZ because he makes more from it. He's also heavy in affiliate marketing via ppc but rarely talks about it.

I did make a lobster thread before and before/after pics of it in my bathtub, in my pot, and on my plate.

Lobsters, at least North Atlantic lobsters, are bottom feeders. Now I love lobsters, boiled for 20 minutes in salt(ed) water.

And to preempt the "ZOMG, THAT'S SO CRUEL, KILL THEM" replies, lobsters are basically insects. (yes, I know they are actually crustaceans)

It appears Chow had a "spiny lobster" in the video:

Not sure if there is much of a difference, most of my lobster fare comes from Red Lobster.
