The biggest problem is that Java is really slow. On a pure cpu / memory / display / communications level, most modern cell phones should be considerably better gaming platforms than a Game Boy Advanced. With Java, on most phones you are left with about the CPU power of an original 4.77 mhz IBM PC, and lousy control over everything.

he makes a good point the only phone that i've played with solid games are the nokia Series 60 phones. The ngage is th best from a straight foward controll perpective, but since all series 60 phones run basically the same hardware the games when properly "modified" run great on all the phones. other phone manufactures should take notice at what nokia is doing with these phones

Java runs great... as long as there is nothing other than console output.

Or it's running on a system with > 1 GHz CPU and > 256 MB RAM.

In another 3-5 years java games will run fine on phones, since speed and RAM will be 4-8 times what they are now.
