<< LP candidate's feisty billboard
triggers coverage, controversy

Abu-Ghazalah's tongue-in-cheek billboard denounces ethnic
profiling

[March 18] An LP candidate for U.S. Congress in California has
made headlines with a tongue-in-cheek billboard that denounces
ethnic profiling.

Maad Abu-Ghazalah, who is campaigning for the District 12 seat,
erected the billboard on February 28. The sign has since drawn
coverage from the San Mateo County Times, the San Jose
Mercury News, the local NBC newscast, and a local Spanish
television station.

Located along Highway 101 in Belmont, the 14' x 16' billboard
shows Attorney General John Ashcroft promoting a fictitious
television series called "The Ethnic Profiler." The sign also lists
Abu-Ghazalah's website: www.maad4congress.org.

"I was told that a key to a [successful] campaign is to ensure a
constant flow of publicity," said Abu-Ghazalah. "For a third-party
candidate, that means we sometimes have to resort to 'guerrilla'
campaign tactics to ensure some level of coverage."

The billboard cost $1,500 to produce, and $15,000 to display
throughout March.

Abu-Ghazalah said the sign is part of his overall campaign to
appeal to the roughly 60% of voters in his district who are of
foreign origin.

In late February, Abu-Ghazalah was endorsed by the Mexican
American Political Association -- the first time an LP candidate
has earned such an endorsement.

He faces incumbent Democrat Tom Lantos and Republican
challenger Mike Moloney in the election. Both have expressed
support for ethnic profiling in the wake of the September 11
terrorist attacks.

"Ethnic profiling is objectionable to the very foundation of what it
means to be American," said Abu-Ghazalah. "Let us not let our
valid concern for our security blind us into conducting a broad
witch hunt against people based on their ethnicity."

Good for him. Looks like he's Maad as hell, and he's not going to take it, anymore. 🙂 Ashcroft is dangerous and should be removed from office as soon as possible. :disgust:

Russ -- Fruit Loops are from Kellogg's (Battle Creek, Mi.).

Pacfanweb: Do you even know what the patriot act does? It gives the government more power to spy (both telephone tapping and internet spying) on and detain people without any probabable cause.

Russ: Uh huh, i'm sure that's what you meant 😉

Wnied: NITPICKER!! And don't tell me you never make typos over the 'net

If a Jewish terrorist group were actively seeking to kill millions of Americans, the governement in my opinion would have the right to interview me to find out if I know anything. It's just common sense and prudent law enforcement.

Does a 10-kiloton nuclear bomb have to be detonated in lower Manhattan before some you people will realize that maybe we need to do things a little bit differently? 😕

Liberals scare the heck out of me. 🙁

Vespasian- The answer to your question is yes, it will take a nuclear weapon to do it, but not in Manhattan, but where they can see it, and where it affects their lives directly. Otherwise, the pain and suffering of others is academic. The worst crime it seems is to run the risk of offending someone. BTW- like the sig 😉

Excuse me guys but isnt Ashcroft from Missouri????

Former Senator and Governor.

No trying to defend Ca. here either.
