I think of it as wow, look how far you can go with the guitar (knowing I'll never get that good). To put it another way, if I saw someone that'd been playing for many years and they sucked, I'd think, wow, I could spend years and a lot of hard work trying to get better and there's a chance I might only be as good as him (the guy that sucks)?

Just saw the show last night. He played for 1 hour 15 minutes, took a 15 minute break, and came out for another 2 hours. He played all kinds of stuff, from all of his albums. It was a pretty good show, and the theater he played in was great. I was in the orchestra pit, 5th row, slightly off to the left.

Bonus: I drank Guinness at the Pabst theater. Sorry, no PBR piss water for me. 🙂

I have a similar report too. Saw him at the Beacon Theater in NYC on Oct 16. 3 hours total.. Fast, slow, moody, hyper, old school, new school. Simply amazing. Now I love wailing guitars & hard rock, but it was too loud. We sat in a perfectly unobstructed line with the theaters speakers. If I did not bring my earplugs that night then I swear that I would have lost like a 25% of my hearing permanently.

These are the earplugs I bought for playing drums so that I am not deaf by 45.
An Evening with Joe Satriani. Enjoy it. Love it. MMMMMmmmmmmmm guitar majesty, but bring earplugs.

I've already ordered Platinum tickets for his gig in Vegas in December at House of Blues. He's absolutely amazing. My favorite guitarist.

I had a friend of mine who never heard of Satriani sit down and watch his live from San Fran DVD on my home theatre. The next day, he was at Future Shop purchasing every single Satriani CD/DVD he could get a hold of. Just like that, he was hooked.
